DRB scan tool display - Torque convertor clutch solenoid CKT.

I changed the engine in my van and it will crank over but not start. The onboard check engine lamp reads code 37 .

Have you checked for spark? The pick-up is in the distributor. Do you have pulse to the coil or will it start if you spray carb cleaner into it?

Fix trouble code P0894 on 2004 h2 hummer


The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the difference between engine speed and transmission output speed. In D3 drive range with the TCC engaged, the engine speed should closely match the transmission output speed. In D4 drive range, with the TCC engaged, the TCC slip speed should be -20 to +50 RPM.
When the PCM detects excessive TCC slip when the TCC should be engaged, then DTC P0894 sets. DTC P0894 is a type B DTC.

TCC - torque converter clutch
Diagnostic Aids
• Bronze material found in the transmission oil pan may indicate stator shaft bushing wear. If bushing wear is suspected, inspect the stator shaft and the input, turbine, shaft for damage.
• Refer to Symptoms - Automatic Transmission for more information.
Do you have a scan tool ?

Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Important: Before clearing the DTC, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records. Using the Clear Info function erases the Freeze Frame and Failure Records from the PCM.
Record the DTC Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
Clear the DTC.
Important: It may be necessary to allow multiple TCC cycles to occur in order to verify a slipping condition. It may also be necessary to ensure the transmission is warm before performing this step.
Drive the vehicle in 4th gear with the TCC commanded ON.
Does the scan tool TCC Slip Speed measure within the specified range for 7 seconds?

Inspect the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid valve for the following conditions:
• Internal malfunction, such as sediment or damage
• Damaged seals
• Refer to Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, and Wiring Harness .
Inspect the torque converter clutch pulse width modulation (TCC PWM) solenoid valve for the following conditions:
• Internal malfunction, such as sediment or damage
• Damaged seals

How to fix a p1599 and a p1640 on my 2001 Saturn lw200


DTC P1599 will set if the PCM has detected an engine stall condition when:
?€¢
The engine is in run mode.


?€¢
Ignition voltage is present on circuit 839.


?€¢
The CKP signal at PCM is NOT detected.

DTC P1599 is a type D DTC
The PCM has the ability to set a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) if the engine stalls when the ignition has NOT been turned OFF. This DTC may aid in intermittent diagnosis of a customer complaint of intermittent engine stall. The scan tool Failure Record information can be duplicated under the same stall conditions in an attempt to reproduce the occurrence. Since DTC P1599 is a type D DTC, the PCM will not command the MIL or SERVICE telltale ON. This DTC can set due to driver error. For example, a vehicle equipped with a manual transaxle in which the clutch was released too quickly causing the engine to stall.
DTC P1640 (PCM Output Circuit)
The PCM contains an output driver module (ODM) which controls 7 circuits: A/C relay, air pump relay, EVAP purge solenoid, EVAP vent solenoid, fan control 1, fan control 2, and TCC solenoid. The ODM controls each of these circuits independently by controlling the circuit ground. The ODM monitors the voltage level at each of the 6 circuits into the PCM when the device is being commanded ON or OFF. When the device is commanded OFF, the circuit is not grounded, the voltage level at the PCM should be high (ignition voltage). When the device is commanded ON, the circuit is grounded, the voltage level at the PCM should be low. Each of the 7 drivers in the ODM contains a feedback circuit used to determine if a particular circuit failed, which can be read on the scan tool. DTC P1640 sets when any one of the 7 feedback voltages is low when that device is turned OFF or when any one of the 7 feedback voltages is high when that device is turned ON when the engine is running.
Sounds to me like you have a short on one of these circuits !
To locate an intermittent problem, use the scan tool to command each of the 7 solenoids tied to the ODM circuit ON and OFF independently while monitoring:
A/C RELAY CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
A/C RELAY CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
AIR PUMP REL. CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
AIR PUMP REL. CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
EVAP PURGE CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
EVAP PURGE CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
EVAP VENT CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
EVAP VENT CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
FC 1 RELAY CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
FC 1 RELAY CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
FC 2 RELAY CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND
FC 2 RELAY CKT SHORT TO VOLTS
OR
TCC DUTY CYCLE OPEN SHORT TO GND
TCC DUTY CYCLE SHORT TO VOLTS
If IGN 3 fuse is open, A/C RELAY CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND, EVAP VENT CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND, and EVAP PURGE CKT OPEN SHORT TO GND parameters on the scan tool will read YES.
Do you have a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? You need to check each wire in the above circuits for a short to ground or B+ !

u need to use a scan tool to try an command your torque convertor clutch on while test driving to verify an rpm drop while cruising. possible causes are a badd tcc solenoid in tranz and or possible bad ecm/tcm or faulty electical connections. bad solenoid requires trans removal for access to solenoid... and are very common repairs. check eng light will stay on without repairs

P0740-TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH CONTROL CIRCUIT...

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

RELATED DTC P0750 PRESENT
INTERMITTENT WIRING AND/or CONNECTORS
INCORRECT FLUID LEVEL
INTERNAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM - TCC OUT OF RANGE
L/R SOLENOID INOPERATIVE

Further diagnostic with a good scan tool will help, could be all you need is a new solenoid or some electrical repairs. Hope this helps.

there is a total of 27 diagnostic steps to follow, but here is some info for you:
SYMPTOM
P1740-TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE

WHEN MONITORED
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (O/D) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and O/D.

SET CONDITION
The code will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or O/D. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
- Camshaft DTC present
- Engine RPM DTC present
- Fuel level low
- Misfire DTC present
- Output speed DTC present

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.
Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (GAS)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (OD) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and OD.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or OD. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.
Possible Causes

PO740 is a TCC/lockup code.TCC stands for Torque Convertor Clutch.In between the engine and transmission is a torque convertor.Inside the torque convertor is a clutch.This clutch engages to eliminate slippage inside the torque convertor.When a malfunction occurs in the system,which is activated by solenoids,and a computer,a TCC code will set.There is a diagnostic route specifically for that code,to determine if the malfunction is electrical,mechanical,or hydraulic.
