Question about 1991 Nissan 300ZX

91 300zx N/A 5spd power loss and engine chatter

My 91 300zx N/A 5spd. has a laundry list of problem, but what is getting me now is horrible acceleration. when driving all if fine to an extent, but when I ether try to floor it or come to a stop at a light then go I pretty much just crawl away. this use to occasionally happen at the 4000rpm range but now its the cars general operation sometimes with a delightful hint of odeur de gas. I've recently had the fuel system flushed, added new fuel injectors and new ignition coils and things were good for a while after that. *side note* engine sounds like chatter teeth and every now and then the car does not wont to start just a click.

Starts and runs great but dies when you hit the brakes it dies

engine stalls.
can be 50 reasons
but are this.
needs a 60k mile tune up bad.
1: EFI system has 12vdc power loss. (see dash dim?)_
2: engine misfires. horribly and idle controls failed, (all will like that)
3: engine floods, same.
4: engine fueling drops so low and lean the engine stalls.
5: bad engine, cam time or sparking way off or 45 other engine prob.
there is a test for each one, need a list?
and last, 6: the ISC is stuck close, or EGR stuck open

did you pull the DTC scan codes, the CEL blink test?
from the ECU?
is the CEL glowing (lamp in dash) running?
omg, this is not a carb engine is it, many 87 were.
1987 is a cusp year, in USA for end off all carbs. (EPA rules)

Horrible engine knock in 1995 toyota celica

Check for oil pressure.Check the compression in each cylinder.
Yank the valve cover to see if the camshaft is actually turning during cranking mode, only.
Disable the fuel pump or disable the spark(fuel disable preferred)
The engine may have "eaten" something it shouldn't.
A valve may be broken off inside the cylinder head.
Usually an exhaust valve.

Our 2005 Montana SV6 developed severe engnine knock, with dramatic loss of power, no prior problems that may have lead to this. Our mechanic thinks the oil pump was beginning to fail, and that maybe only...

Is the knock a thudding noise similar to someone pounding on a metal door or is it more of a rattling or chattering noise? If it is the thudding noise there is likely lower end engine damage. If is the chattering or rattling noise it may just be lack of oil to the upper end or head/s of the engine. How far have you driven it like this? If not very far it may have minimal damage that can be repaired by just installing a new oil pump, but if driven over a few miles like this it could be excessive and need new parts+repairs. The oil pump may not be easily changed but extra repairs are definitely going to cost more.

I have a 2005 ford escape, i have a loud chattering in the engine, i replaces head, cams and oil pump, still have the noise, im at a loss on what to do

It helps to tell what engine you have??? You really need a Mechanic to check that out. It gets real expensive to guess.

2001 Jeep Wrangler HP loss

1. did you put oversized tires on the vehicle, if so that changes the gear ratio and will result in power loss,
2.. the catylitic coverter is plugged, often the coverter breaks apart and the pieces find there way to the outlet pipe and restrict exaust flow .
3. a fuel pump probem, low fuel presure under a load, however this condition will make the eng run lean, and most likey set a check eng light,

Loss of power on acceleration. Put new fuel

Probably the ignition timing is not advancing the spark on acceleration or high rpm's.

That is the job of the ECM (Electronic Control Module). Check it / Replace it.

Hope this helps!
