My 2001 chevy silverado's low beams don't work. I

The wiring for the low beams would run not to the ignition, but to the dimmer switch. I don't know what color they are, but sounds like you are at the source of the problem, if the low beams quit when the column is let down. Pull the trim pieces off the steering column and examine the wires going to the dimmer switch. You may see some wiring insulation scraped off. It could be a bad dimmer switch, but check the wiring first.
Good luck.

Headlights will work on bright but not on dim. Tail lights will work regardless if one has it on bright or dim. Daytime driving lights work. The problems must be in the light switch on the left side of...

you could have a dimmer switch problem that may need an adjustment or replacement.do you hear the switch click when you try to change from high to low,if not than these could be the problem.the switch is located on the top of the steering colume and the base of the colume under the dash.if you work the dimmer switch on the colume and put your hand on the colume under the dash you should be able to feel the rod that pushes on the switch.follow the rod down and it will go to the dimmer switch.there are 2 5/16 bolts that hold it in place that if you loosen them and push the switch up towards the steering wheel it will move it so the rod won`t have to move as far to change from low to high.if this is not the problem and you don`t hear a click then its usually a switch replacement.

Low beam head lights are not working. High beams only work when you put the switch on then push the high beam arm on the steering wheel

you may have a problem with the dimmer switch for the headlights.its located on the top of the steering colume at the base of the colume near the firewall.

did you check to see if the fuse was any good.if it wasn`t then replace the fuse.a fuse will not cost you $25 as you indicate.if it works after changing the fuse that`s all you have to do.it could be the dimmer switch at the base of the steering colume that changes from high to low beam lights when you move the signal arm.you can find it by looking under the dash and move the arm to activate the switch to find it.you can check for power out of the switch with a test light.the wire color will be the same as the wire at the back of the headlight for the low beam.

I have a 1984 dodge 4x4 1/2 ton. the headlights dont work just the running lights work when i pull the light switch out. i bought new headlights nothing

some times when the dimmer switch on the floor goes bad the headlights will cut out. Try replacing the dimmer switch and the headlights should come back on. My 84 dodge had that exact problem.

Chevy lumina euro 90, no high beam. Is it a separate fuse from the low beam? the low beam works

No it is not a fuse. More than likely, it is the dimmer switch but I have seen where both high beam lights burn out at the same time.
Hope this helps

The ignition switch is mounted on top of the mast jacket inside the brake pedal support and is actuated by a rod and rack assembly.

  3. On Caballero and El Camino, rotate ignition lock to ``Off'' unlocked position.
  4. On C, K, R and V models, rotate ignition lock to ``Off'' locked position.
  5. If lock cylinder has been removed, pull switch actuator rod up to stop, then pushrod down to second (Caballero or El Camino) or first (C, K, R and V models) detent as shown, Fig. 7.
  6. Remove column mounted dimmer switch, if equipped, then remove switch retaining screws and switch.
  7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    1. Place gear shift lever in neutral.
    2. Place lock cylinder and switch in positions noted in steps 3 and 4.
    3. Fit actuator rod into hole in switch slider and secure switch with retaining screws, ensuring switch does not move out of detent.
    4. Install and adjust dimmer switch, if equipped, as outlined in ``Column Mounted Dimmer Switch, Replace'' procedure.
    5. Torque retaining screws to 35 inch lbs., then check switch operation.
