Question about 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

I have a 95 cavalier that idles rough and misses while driving. When it first started it gave a code 19- crank sensor fault. I cleared the code and for the past week the code has not returned but it still doesnt run properly. should i replace the sensor or check for other problems?

I replaced the MAP sensor AND the MAF sensor. the car now has a rough idle. did those replacements cause the rough idle?

Did you disconnect the battery negative cable for 5 minutes after the parts were replaced? If not do so then drive it at least 20 miles in varying conditions of idle cruise and so on. See if that helps the rough idle. also rerun the fault code test and see if any codes reappear, I have a feeling you did not fix the problem but just threw parts at it.

Tcs light flashes and p0340 code

P0340 code means "Something" is wrong in the timing...
from CMP (Camshaft Position sensor) to the crankshaft bolt.

Very first thing, verify connectors are clean and shiny.
clear all codes, even hard codes.

I have a 1999 buick century with a 3.1 engine stop running while driving, ran codes came back with crank sensor, multiply cylinder misfire changed crank sensor, cleared codes, will start, but idles very rough...

Did you replace the crank sensor that is in the engine block between the engine and transmission? it has two and the one by the pulley hardly ever goes bad.

1994 Chevy Cavalier runs rough with a bunch of codes

code 24= VSS defective or circuit faulty
Code 15= ECT sensor indicates low temperature
Code 66=A/C pressure sensor circuit fault, probably low pressure
Code 19=Fuel pump circuit shorted

I would start with the fuel pump wiring. If it is shorted, the pump may run but not put out adequate pressure due to the voltage drop across the short. Look for some pinched fuel pump wiring. I think you probably fixed the coolant temp sensor (15). The vehicle speed sensor (VSS, no. 24) will cause a host of problems if not working right. The car basically thinks it is standing still and won't give you enough fuel.

1989 Cavalier Z24 3.1 rough idle and hesitation

It sounds like you may have a broken exhaust valve spring, although, like you have found out problems like this can be very hard to diagnose, but anyone with a compression tester and couple other tools could find out if this is the case. Hope this gives you another idea where to look.
