Oil pressure guage gone goofy

Have your mechanic check the true oil pressure with a pressure gauge, and go from there. If it's good, maybe the shorting sound you heard is the wiring from the oil pressure sender on the engine to the dash. Was the sound coming from back of dash, or from the engine area, or where? Be sure and let your mechanic know.

Sounds like some sort of electrical problem. Could be a short in the wiring somewhere. I would take it to a repair shop.

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited edition 4.7 liter V8 2wd. Recently it has just died whilst driving on the highway 40mph city driving. It just died quickly and all the gauges went dead like...

The first thing I would check is to make sure battery is securely tied down, cables are connected, and in good shape. Sounds basic but it has caused this problem for many of us.

It sounds like - from your description - that you may have a possible electrical short. I wish your description of your problem were a little more descriptive.

sounds like you need to look at your fuse pannel than track your wires and find the short in your electrical system

check at the alternator with a meter to see if it is charging there and if the gauge is reading accuratly because it sounds like it is shorting to ground on the way to the gauge
