Question about 1988 Chevrolet C1500

2 Answers

My Chevy is losing gas power, I am hoping it's not the fuel pump and want to change the filter. Where is the filter and how do I go about changing it. Also, how do you determine the engine size, because I do not think the original motor is what is in it now. It's a 1988 Chevy C1500.

I have not seen any leak. It has power initially, but as u accelerate it stalls and begins to shut down, bucking like a horse at times. As long as u don't give it alot of gas it runs just fine.

I'm a novice at best as far as mechanical knowledge goes, but quick learner and pretty familiar with tools and things. Where would the filter b located? I bought a filter for an original 350 engine, still not sure what size engine is in it now and was wondering how could u tell? It's obviously not the original, the truck was an heirloom from a late uncle

Has the fuel filter been repllced?, sounds like either a plugged filter or a defective fuel pump.

Not sure where the filter is but it is a messy job and you might want to find an independant repair shop the will do it for a good price. all cars are required to have an emmisions sticker under the hood that identifies the proper engine if that is removed then a dealer parts dept can tell you from the vin. usually visible in the front bottom windshield area. good luck

hi thanks for the reply most motors have id numbers stamped into the block and the heads have an identifier pattern on the ends because the same size block can be paired with different heads for performance. is it a 4 cylinder or a 6 or an 8? To make major changes you have to modify motor mounts and exhaust and so many things that most likely it is the same as original. get back with me i will watch my emails today good luck

Sounds like you are losing fuel pressure. At low rpms it will not show up. Could be a bad fuel pump. Since you have spent so much money I highly suggest replacing fuel pump. Also check for any fuel leaks. I truly believe their is a leak in vaccuum A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful 1995-chevy-k1500-when-use-les-half-ynnexffib1tqqlzbw4nudlh0-2-0.jpg

My truck loses power

In most cases it is the fuel filter. I don't know when it was changed before, but it should be changed at least every 8-10 k miles. Make sure you change the air filter too.
