My check engine light and vtm light are on in my 2008 Honda Pilot I checked the codes it's saying the egr valve is bad would that cause the Vtm light to come on to

Yes, the VTM-4 module will light up.

Here's the deal; when you manually turn on the Variable Torque Management-4 system, the light to the console switch is illuminated- letting you know that the vehicle is in traction control mode- and it is functioning properly.

However, if you did not manually activate the VTM, and your cruising along under normal driving conditions, but you start experiencing engine problems, like when the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve starts to malfunction, this malfunction will cause the engine to misfire and lose engine power.

When this loss of engine power occurs, the VTM perceives that the engine power is being reduced to restore traction to the car's drive line (axle and wheels)- so it triggers the light to go on.

The triggering of the VTM could also happen when the idle speed control valve malfunctions.

So once you have the EGR valve replaced, the codes on the OBD module should be cleared; the check engine light will turn off; and the VTM system light will turn off too.

Take your car to an auto parts store and ask them to put a code reader on your car. They not only tell you what the codes are (see below) but also the most likely cause and most likely solution. Or Go Look up OBDII Codes

I personally would start by buying throttle body cleaner and having them show you where to spray it.

Code 1511: Idle Switch (Electric Control Throttle)Circuit Malfunction

Code 0070: Outside air temperature sensor -circuit malfunction

Code 0015: Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction

Code 0010: IAT Circuit Malfunction

When a 'check engine light' (MIL=Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is turned on, there is a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) set/stored in the ECM/PCM (Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module). This code identifies which engine management system component/function experienced a malfunction. Once you pull/read this code, you may begin diagnosis.

Check engine soon light on 2000 lincoln navigator

The light means pretty much what it says. This light is a warning to let you know that your Engine Management System is malfunctioning. The onboard computer will need to be scanned to find out which of the many systems monitored by your computer is malfunctioning.

EMS light on 2007 Jeta

EMS stands for "Engine Management System. Please read on.
Lots of areas are monitored by the engine management system, some of them are not apparent to anyone just driving the car, and usually they are not immediately terminal (which is why the light is yellow and not red). However they can get worse and should be checked as soon as possible. The following tells you a bit about engine management systems and how to read codes/ reset them.

The 'Engine Management Light' come on if the automatic monitoring system detects a malfunction in (usually) the powertrain components of the vehicle. If the fault has been fixed, then what you need to do to put the light out is:-

1 Disconnect the battery.
2 Reconnect the battery - this resets the engine management to its base configuration. At this stage, if you start the car up the Light will still be on and will stay on until the monitoring system has completed a series of tests some of which depend upon the car being operated under various normal driving conditions. Typically this will take about 20 minutes of normal driving. If all the tests are within spec then the light will go out and you will be back on the road!

If the fault persists then you have a specific problem. You will either need to take it to a dealer who will be able to read the codes and fix the problem (lots of dosh outlay I suspect). If you are reasonably confident you could buy a code reader to find out the problem for yourself. Gendan are currently selling theirs for £39.95 free pp which covers all post 2001 petrol and post 2004 diesel cars. Note if you reset using a code reader you still have to go through the 20 minute drive process before you are "back in business".

What does a yellow enginge warning light indicate?

It indicates that the vehicle's computer has recorded a code in the memory. It will be a malfunction code of some sort. A code reader tool is connected to the diagnostic connector under the dash to retrieve the code, which gives information as to which engine management system has experienced a malfunction.

Gauge light on?

Gauge light illuminates when the ignition is switched on. It should extinguish as soon as the engine starts.
If it illuminates with the engine running, it indicates a malfunction with the engine management system. Have this checked as soon as possible.
If it flashes when driving, reduce the vehicle speed immediately until the light illuminates constantly. If it continues to flash, avoid heavy acceleration and high engine speed, stop the vehicle and have it checked immediately.
On some vehicles this light may be red – again stop the vehicle and seek assistance.
If it is safe to do so, try stopping the vehicle, switching off the engine, wait two minutes, then restarting the engine to reset the engine management system.
With the light illuminated, the vehicle is still safe to drive as long as no other faults are apparent with the engine. Have the vehicle checked by a dealer or garage as soon as possible to avoid any damage being caused to the catalytic converter.
