Question about 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Do you have to take the cover plate off of the differencial housing when you replace the rear axle seal?
Yes...You need to also remove the cross shaft for the spider gears (retained by either a bolt or drift pin) and then push the axle inward to remove the "c" clip on the end.
It isn't difficult but you may want to get yourself a haynes or chiltons manual to help a bit.You need to take care that after the cross shaft is out that you don't let the spider gears walk out of the housing.
