You'll need an OBD II scan tool to clear them. A performance cat replacement is fine. I would replace it, due to the fact that alot of times the insides of the converter break apart inside.

How to factory reset the main motherboard computer on a Lincoln Navigator 2000

If you have a check engine light lit , there is a DTC - diagnostic trouble code set in the PCM / ECM -OBD 2 engine management system computer . If you don't fix the problem the light will not go out , you need to have a scan tool hooked up to check codes an go from there !

1997 Mazda millennium won't start

Hello

The engine and the automatic transmission in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems.

I have a P0420 code happening on my kia. What does that mean?

Code P0420 is a code for Catalyst efficiency. The computer is seeing the post Catalytic converter o2 sensor having too much activity. The Cat. should be cleaning the exaust of Hc, co, and Nox. The post cat o2 will read the o2 content in the exhaust and if it moves up and down too much or to high and low, the computer interperates that as the cat not ridding the exhaust of it's pollutants. This indicates that the converter is unable to preform properly. The problem could be a bad cat, o2 sensor (Pre- and/or post cat)or o2 sensor wires, or an air fuel mixture problem that has caused the cat to fail. Many other engine operating system failures can cause the converter to not work properly
hope this helps

Check engine light,, may need oxygen sensors?? How much are they,, where are they located & since this car is so old, are there any quick fixes?? How many years does Mass require we pass emissions??

Our wonderful state keeps changing the emission laws but right now it is every year.
Have the car scanned for codes. Autozone and a few other part suppliers will scan your car for free. They will also tell you what the code means.
They will not reset the engine light, it is against Co. policy. But you can buy your own and do it yourself.
O2 sensors are around $50. They are screwed in on its exhaust pipe, before and after the CAT. Let me know how your making out.

I think you will find the aftermarket Cat Conv. is the source of your problem, but without hooking up to the factory test equipment at my disposal at my Ford dealer this at best and educated guess based on 20 years of emission related work, I am a Ford certified master electronics technician

1997 Lincoln Towncar "check engine light - code P430"

There is a technical service bulletin number 03-24-5 out for this to reprogam the PCM. Should be able to get this done at your local Ford dealer.
