Yes. I reccomend that you do a rebuild or buy a new one, buying one from a junk yard is not reccomended because you never know if your getting a good one or not, unless you can find one with low miles ( 30,000 or less) I would not recommend a used one. Honda always had issues with all their V6 transmissions. They use weak gears, and the internal tranny filter that you cant change unless you take apart the tranny is totally a bad idea. They have since upgraded the gears from 2004 0n and have put an external tranny filter on most odyssey models.

Better check your owners manual and ask your local Honda dealer service person, before doing so. CVT tranny has been annoying for many with them, as they seem to fail and require rebuild too often. The tranny is always shifting for best gear so it may overheat fast especially if it came with no heavy duty tranny oil cooler that is like a radiator but smaller, to cool the special CVT tranny fluid.I wouldnt try it, but check with the manufacturer dealer , Honda to confirm my guess its NO.

Torke converter needs to be replaced. Before you do that check the mounts.

No reverse. What are the probable causes of DTCs P0700 and P0780?

I own a 2003 ODY & frequent ODYCLUB.com forums for answers.
General opinion is when these trannys go out, it happens quickly.
But, it never hurts to know your issues and options before taking a dealer mechanic's word.
1. Codes for Low transmission fluid: P0730 & P0780
2. P0700: Sorry, but a dealer has the HONDA diagnostic tool to find the real problem code. P0700 is a generic "transmission error" code used by after-market diagnostics.
3. Check if your "D" is lighting up on the shift indicator.

Here are some helpful links from the ODYCLUB Forum:
Note: Always check for healthy orange colored tranny fluid before re-filling. Black is BURNED and needs replace & might indicate clogged screens or worse.

Won't go into gear

is this an auto or stick shifted car, ??? we can not guess this, ever.
you said, Gear, that is stick shift and A/T has no gears.
it has, R, D, 1,2,.. selections... are all 4 dead.?
shudders?
starts,
is RPM 800 or more?
you then shift to say reverse...
and step on the throttle , RPM is 800 and it advances to 1500 or more
and car moves,
does RPM go above 3000 and not move
that means , the tranny (or TCM or sensors) are bad.
if your RPM goes to 2000 and is stuck there, and car will not
move in any shifted rage, 1,2,D,L, then the brakes are iced over.
the key to this mystery is RPM. the engine RPM will tell you
what is happening,
for sure.
post it. and we can tell you.

slipping is when the tranny allows RPM to be unlimited at right foot actions.
if the brakes are frozen the RPM will be at the TC clutch stall speed
that is , about 2000rpm max and will shake there. (5sec max doing that)
see the FSM on stall speed, of your A/T
if this is a clutch car, say so, M/T stick car, say so, that be DIFFERENT/

I have a 2001 odyssey and the tcs light came on and the ****** shifts hard and some times it just will not move????

If you have been driving it at all-- there is little chance
of resolving those type trans issues

May end up having to rebuild it-- given the age & the
fact not may transaxles see 100,000 miles

Not shifting- works in low gear only till the transmission gets hot

shift solenoid in the tranny?
how burnt does the transmission oil smell (from the dipstick)
when was the last transmission service (fluid & filter cleaning?)??
sounds like you may also have one of the ball valves sticking and it needs a good cleaning -- could also be the transmission cooler is plugged - any cold spots on it?
Best regards
Ck

Van shudders when accelerating in high gear, shudder stops when releasing the gas, or shifting to D2. Can also "burn through" the shudder by pressing down and forcing the vehicle to downshift and...

smell the transmission fluid and see if it smells burnt, If so the tranny may need rebuilding.
Check the level while your there. To prolong life of car don't make it do that.

Slipping Trans - 2002 Honda Odyssey

Change the fluid. Since you only get about half of the fluid to drain during a change (the rest is held in the torque converter with no way to drain it), you will have to change the fluid three times in order to dilute the "dirty" fluid with enough clean fluid to make the end product mostly clean. Change the fluid, then run the car for awhile. Repeat two more times. And only use Honda fluid.
