Question about 2003 Kia Spectra

1 Answer

My 05 spectra has an antifreeze smell and overheats, then the needle goes back down...seems to be no rhyme or reason, Antifreeze is full, but the Hot/Cold needle keeps fluctuating from the half mark to the red line...smell is stronger now

If you smell anti freeze you have a leak. an overheating condition is caused by a bad thermostat, a bad water pump, clogged coolant system or air trapped in the line. have the coolant system pressure checked to locate the leak. it is probably very small that's boiling away before you have a chance to see it. and this is why the system appears full.

My o4 kia spectra is overheat

Hi Ali,usually the first thing to check is the thermostat, could not be opening all the way, causing it not to circulate fast enough to keep engine cool, here's a guide on how to replace. Here's the part. Here's the gasket. And let's not forget the sealant, don't want it to leak. Here's some antifreeze. If your antifreeze is a different color than this kind, don't mix,ask for your color type if different, must use extended life antifreeze cause of the aluminum water pump, could melt and become deformed.

It overheat i don't see where the water is going

if it is low on antifreeze and you do not see any leaking por some coolant in it and start it let it run for a while then go to the back of the vehicle and smell the exhaust you probably will smell antifreez which means your intake manifold or your headgasket is bad

Sounds like a good diagnosis. You can remove the spark plugs and see if there is coolant in the combustion chambers. A compression check would also narrow things down. The coolant reservoir would have a smell of gas or oil. I hope there is no water in the oil. Regards, Don

Overheating when on highway or using air conditioner

The condenser for the ac is not getting enough air, look for the reason, look in front of the car at the radiator, see if there is something restricting air flow threw the radiator and condenser.

Temperature gauge goes to hot and shortly later goes back to normal though car does not seem to run badly even while needle is at hot . reserve tank seems to draw antifreeze

you need a new thermostat, its sticking and causing you problems, soon it will just stay stuck, the reason the reserve keeps filling up is because of heat and pressure in the radiator

What are all the reasons why a vehicle overheat? Why did the gauge needle didn't show the overheat?

The sensor is in the coolant flange on the end of the cylinder head. The coolant flange is made of plastic and after time they will leak coolant. If no water is in the flange the sensor will not read hot.
