Question about 1992 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

Hi I just recently purchased a 92 Chevy Silverado with a 350 engine in it. The previous owner had busted the radiator in the truck. He had also removed the water pump off the vehicle. I put all of this back on the truck but I am having a problem trying to get the fan to run. It seems that the water pump in which the fan is connected is not functioning. I guess my question is what is it that I am doing wrong? Does that pump suppose to have something connected to it to make it operate?

Hi Rylee thanks for your reply but all of that has been done. This is my first Chevy and I a little unfamiliar with it. Does the water pump suppose to have a pulley connected to it in between the clutch and the pump itself?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. To check that you’ve replaced the water pump correctly, please check these steps - Drain the coolant and store it in a pan, unbolt all the screws to access the water pump and take out the fan and clutch off. You’ll also need to remove the radiator. Now unbolt the pump from the engine. Clean the radiator. Replace all the gaskets with new one. Put some grease on all the bolts and reassemble. Wow, a reply about an Australian based engine. I'm thinking since there is no reply that he just may have a US based engine just posted the wrong size. in which case this might help.

1994 Chevy Silverado temperature guage shows hot

Flushing the radiator, replacing the radiator cap, adding new coolant, replacing the sensors and a new thermostat solved the problem. Probably didn't need to do all of these things - but since we just purchased the truck, and given the fact that is probably hadn't been done in a while, we chose to do all of these things (which really didn't cost a whole lot), it's running like a charm now.
