Question about 2003 Dodge Caravan

Leaking axle seal on 2003 caravan

Hi,I'm trying to change the front right axle seal on my 2003 caravan but not having much luck. I have changed it four times now and every time it destroys the new seal after I drive it about a mile. It cuts the rubber away from the metal part of the seal. I've been very careful putting the seal in place and have used a synthetic grease to lubricate the seal and axle. I even changed axles in case the old was was pitted or worn a bit. The good thing is I can change it pretty quick now but the bad thing is the oil all over the driveway and half of the town lol. Would appreciate some help.

You may have a bad pinon bearing in the differential -- that's where the drive-shaft attaches to.If that's the case a good used tansaxle will be cheaper.
Is there a whining noise when driving.
Also check all moter mounts make sure they are not torn / broken hence throughing the shaft to pinnon alignment off.

Driver side axle leak

front or rear? axle.
movement where
in, out, left right , up or down,. or all?
its a 3D world post directions.

btw, most seals that leak are due to bad bearings allowing the shaft
to beat the seal to bloody death, fact. (Timken.com)
only 1 exception, but is not where you are.

I have a 2003 Z-71 that is leaking at the passenger side front axle. What is involved in replacing this seal? I have all tools needed, (spring compressor, ect). Should I replace the bushing when changing...

In most cases just replacing the seal will repair the leak. Check the seal surface on the axle hub to insure that the surface is not damaged and will damage the new seal.

Our 2001 Dodge Caravan seems to be leaking oil around drive shaft

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.

Front axel oil leak

High pressure wash the entire area and engine, including the strut or shock area. Depending on how long it takes to leak, look at the axle at night with a flashlight as you can see shinny liquid easy at night, but you will see it in the day also if the leaking is prominant.

You might have a leaky strut or shock that is running down on the axle and I am hoping the mechanic took you for a ride,

2005 Yukon Front Diff Axle seals

You don't have to remove the whole diff to change the seals, but you will have to seperate it where the shaft meets the carrier housing. There is a clip holding the passenger axle shaft in place that you have to remove to change the seal. The drivers side axle stub can be removed with a little force as there is a spring clip holding that side in.
