It is call a brake hose retainer clip. Ford dealerships will sell them too

Brake lights 1999 jeep


I looked at info for 99 jeep Cherokee. You can see the fuse and the stop lamp switch, which should be activated by the brake pedal arm when you step on the brake. The white wire with tan tracer carries voltage for rear brake lamps. The ground wire is black, so check voltage and ground. I don't know if all models have the same wire color, you didn't post the model?

Replaced both clipers on rear and rotors,bleed the lines,good brake padel, they are hard don't want to stop the car right away, can anyone make help me on this issue i am having.


The most obvious cause for a hard pedal is simply not enough vacuum. Check the hose running to your booster.could be a bad check valve in booster. To check remove valve from booster hose, Blow through the valve, if you can blow through it, it is bad. if you cant its ok! With car off. Pump the brakes until all air is out of booster. Hold brake down, then start car. if the pedal sinks a little. the booster is ok. If above fails, replace booster. If need be, you can check the rear brakes and see if one is sticking first! Make sure the caliper pins are well greased and slide good. God-Bless! a sticking caliper will cause a hard pedal.

Removal & Installation


NOTE Using a brake pedal holding tool, depress the brake pedal past its first inch of travel and hold it in this position. This will isolate the master cylinder from the hydraulic brake system and will not allow brake fluid to drain out of the reservoir while the brake lines are open.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable Rear wheels Banjo bolt retaining the brake hose to the caliper. Be sure to plug the end of the brake hose or cover it with a plastic bag to prevent contamination from entering the hydraulic system. Caliper guide pin bolts Caliper assembly from the brake adapter by rotating the bottom of the caliper away from the rotor, then lift the caliper with the pads away from the adapter abutment Brake pads by pushing (outboard) or pulling (inboard) from the caliper fingers and piston

To install:
  1. Completely compress the caliper piston
  2. Install or connect the following:
    NOTE The outboard pads are side oriented, make sure the spring clip is installed so it is positioned downwards when the caliper is installed.


    Inboard pad clip against the piston cavity and press the pad until the clip is seated making sure the pad backing plate is flush against the piston


    Outboard pad making sure the locating pins are positioned against the ramps. Slide the pad onto the caliper and ensure the locating pins are squarely seated into the holes on the caliper and the pad is flush against the caliper fingers.
  3. Make sure the abutment shims are in place on both slide abutments.
  4. Retract the caliper guide pins to clear the caliper adapter bosses.

    Brake caliper. Staring with the upper end, position the caliper and shoes over the rotor and align the outboard pad upper edge with the caliper slide abutment. Rotate the lower end of the caliper into position Caliper guide pin bolts and tighten to 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm) Banjo bolt with new washers on each side of the hose fitting and tighten to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) Wheels Negative battery cable
  5. Bleed the brake system and road test the vehicle

How to change rear barke shoes


Brake Drums & Brake Shoes Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Raise and safely support rear of vehicle.
  2. Release parking brake.
  3. Remove rear wheel assemblies. NOTE: If brake drum is stuck, install two 8 mm bolts into threaded holes and tighten evenly.
  4. Remove top return spring, front and rear shoe spring clips and hold-down pins.
  5. Remove anti-rattle spring and adjuster spring. NOTE: Note position of operating lever prior to removal.
  6. Remove bottom return spring.
  7. Remove clip and washer and detach parking brake cable from rear shoe.
  8. Remove brake shoes.
To Install:
  1. Lubricate all brake shoe contact points with appropriate grease.
  2. Place operating level into position on hub.
  3. Install rear brake shoe and connect parking brake cable to rear shoe with washer and clip.
  4. Install front brake shoe and install bottom return spring.
  5. Install hold-down pins and spring clips.
  6. Position operating lever and install top return spring.
  7. Install anti-rattle spring and adjuster spring.
  8. Install brake drum and screws.
  9. Adjust brakes and install rear wheel assemblies.

No, there are no special tools required beyond everyday hand tools.

Raise the vehicle.
Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly from the vehicle If the vehicle is equipped with rear drum brakes, remove any retainer clips from the wheel mounting studs, then pull the brake drum off the hub and bearing.
If the vehicle is equipped with rear disc brakes perform the following:
Remove the two guide pin bolts securing the front disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
Remove the disc brake caliper from the knuckle and brake rotor.
Hang the caliper out of the way using a wire hanger or cord. Do not support the caliper by letting it hang by the hydraulic hose.
Remove any retainer clips from the wheel mounting studs, then pull the brake rotor off the hub and bearing.
Remove the dust cap from the hub and bearing assembly
Remove the retaining nut, then the hub and bearing from the knuckle's spindle

Brake switch wiring good, can manually make switch and brake lights work. But when installed and brake pedal mashed does not work. Slight pressure on rear of switch will allow to work. How do you keep...


i had the exact problem with my 96 of the same truck when i replaced my brake booster and i couldn't shift out of park. the brake switch clips on the side of the bar leading to the booster, and has a pin that connects the pedal assembly to the booster and the brake switch. i believe your problem is with that pin. i ended up putting a small ring hose clamp on the end of that pin. the way i pin pointed the problem was to turn the key to the on position and reach up and hold that assembly tight. then move the brake pedal down just a little bit and you should hear a click. that click is the park lock releasing. now let go of the assembly and wiggle it a little to loosen it back up and you probably won't hear that click. i was a really tight place to work in, but that ring hose clamp hasn't failed me in the last year and a half. hope this helps.

2000 olds bravada rear brakes are draging. changed brake hose's to calupers and the center hose as well. with new brake and rotors still draging not sure what to do next.


I also have this problem on my 2000 Bravada - replaced all rotors and back calipers, brand new brake pads, new system and my rear caliper STILL chewed up a brand new brake pad in one week down to the metal. Checking for an emergency brake issue at this point - if anyone has any suggestions about how to unhook the E Brake, please share!

The most over looked culpret and is also a good possibility could be a brake hose that is deteriating on the inside of the hose or frozen or un-lubricated slide pins. Not just any old grease will do. You you need caliper grease for the pins. The grease has to be able to withstand the heat and not break down. You don't want to go overboard with the grease either because it will collect brake dust and gum up. A light coat is great. If the caliper is able to be compressed back into the caliper with the bleeder valve broken loose then it's likely you have a bad hose. Replace hose and bleed brake system starting from the right rear brake, then left Rear, right front and finally left front. If it doesn't back off check the slide pins for ware and that they function and are not frozen up. Do you see any wet fluid leaking from the caliper or on the brake pads and rotor? I have a 1 ton Ford Diesel that the Rt Front caliper wasn't backing off until I broke free the bleeder valve and found that it was not the caliper, but the hose was bad, the slide path was all rusted and the slide pins were shot. Replaced for hose, slide pins, wire brushed slide path, and greased slide pins and path with caliper grease. Bought a small bottle of brake fluid to bleed the brakes. Total caost was aprox $25.00. New caliper for my truck would cost me $64.00 plus core charge for the old caliper. I had to change out my calipers in the rear as well so that's how I know the cost saved. If you have those little shiney clips that the pads ride on (top and bottom) you need to pop them off and knock loose any rust, brake dust and dirt and then clean up the clips with a wire brush. What happens is rust (usually) bubbles up under the clip and makes the clip raise up slightly. You can't really see the clip raised up but the tolerance is so close that the pads will actually bind up on the bubble and make it seem like the caliper isn't releasing. Depends on what style you have.

BRAKE WARNING LIGHT


Its not an electrical problem . . .. . When you change brakes you have to change the brake sensor as well. . . . . It just looks like a piece of wire with a sensor that clips onto the pad . . . . .Normally it is the outerpad. . . I cant tell you on witch sides its on cause it may differ from model to model.

Its not going to be a hazardous to the car the brake light will just keep burning.

If you replace the sensor and t he light does not stop burning it may be that your front brakes are also worn but remember just as at the back there is a sensor at the front.
