Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

2001 ford focus idles rough will stall. Ijust resently changed the timming belt. I also replased a portion of the pcv hose that came from the trotttle body, because it was crushed. I have changed the spark plug and wires and replaced a new coil pack. The engine is fine with the eccleration pedal pressed. At idle it shakes the engine rough and eventually will dye.

make sure your fan/fans are kicking on by turning on the air conditioning on full. if not replace the temp sending unit ore relays or fuses. this fixed mine after replacing a multitude of sensors.

Changed timing belt on my 2001 ford focus 2.0 dohc and now it is idyling high. I read somewhere that I have to drive around for 20-30 miles for the car to relearn the idle. They said after driving around...

That's rubbish, when the fan belt is changed as long as it's not to tight or to loose everything will be fine, the fan belt operates the power steering, air conditioning etc, if that's all working when fitted an easy way to find out another problem your not sure of is to pop into a garage and have a didiagnostic test.

Rough idling and often stalling. 2002 Ford F150 4.6. Change the MASS no change. Please help.

What is the computer telling you? Are you getting "lean oxygen sensor" codes? (P0171 & P0174)
If so, the 4.6L engines (especially in the trucks) are notorious for the PCV hose assembly getting holes in it in the boot that connects it to the back of the throttle body. It will cause rough idle, engine surging and sometimes stalling.

Vaccum hose on the back side of my 2000 ford focus was collapsed.then the one to the pcv valve did the same changed it and still got a rough idle

Sounds like there are more vacuum leaks elsewhere. If some of the hoses are rotting, then others are too.

This is only a guess, because rough idle can be due to an infinity of reasons. On the Focus, assuming that the spark plugs and wires are all good (check that the wires are seated securely), then very often this is due to a problem with the vacuum lines or the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. With the engine running, listen closely for any tell-tale hissing sound and try to locate it. Check that the vacuum hoses are all in good condition and that they are securely in place. The IAC is a little more complicated to check. Its job is to let air in when the throttle is closed. If it is not opening as it should then the engine will idle rough. One thing you can try is to remove the IAC entirely, leaving an opening for air to get into the intake manifold. If the engine idles better with the IAC removed, you will know that the IAC has a problem. It could be a problem with the IAC itself or with its circuit. Good luck, if you have any more questions let me know.
