The upper O2 sensor is located on the exhaust manifold/s, and the rest is down the line. Some Vehicles have 2, 3, etc. The Upper O2 reads and helps control air/fuel mixture, the lowers usually monitor emissions, and Catalytic converter efficiency.

How many o2 sensor are on a 2004 gmc yukon

Hi Charles,

GM products have 4 O2 sensors attached along the exhaust pipes coming off the manifold. Bank 1 is aligned to cylinder 1 on the engine which is the driver's side. Sensor 2 is the one after the convertor (Sensor 1 being the one before the convertor). Link attached for more information.

Oxygen Sensor Locations

I have changed out one of mine; quite easy, but you need a sensor wrench which you can find an any automotive store for around $15.

The part is available readily enough - link attached.

Good luck

Signs of a bad valve cover gasket

My first question would be, what was the original trouble code that directed the mechanic to replace the sensors ? You seldom need more than one O2 sensor at a time. Its possible the exhaust manifold is leaking and that might cause a problem that would turn on the warning light. Or it could be something else.
A valve cover gasket will leak oil if it fails. No check engine light.

Already replaced o2 sensor 2 times which means im getting ready to install 4th o2 sensor and cant figure out whats causing o2 sensor to fail. car is idleing rough but not stallin yet. please help

What is your Trouble code? O2 sensors just don't go bad, unless you are buying cheap parts. Need to find out why its idling rough. if there are no codes have a repair shop review the scan data and see why its running rough.

I have the P0133 code bank 1 sensor 1, i know it could be the O2 sensor but when i disconnect the service hose leading to the evap canister it runs better but only for a little bit. im not sure why that...

CODE PO133 O2 BANK 1 SENSOR 1 SLOW RESPONSE. POSSIBLE CAUSES, LOOK FOR EXHAUST LEAK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD OR EXHAUST PIPES. THE O2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT OR UPSTREAM CIRCUIT HAS FAILED, THE O2 ELEMENT HAS FAILED.COULD BE THE O2 SENSOR ALSO YOU COULD HAVE A VACUUM LEAK OR EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEAK.

My jetta will start but when you give it gas it dies. ive replace the fuel filter maf sensor and as a result with messing with the throttle body, im replaceing it as well, i hooked it up to a computer and...

Its a computer controlled motor so yes if one thing gives it a bad reading the cpu will try to counter the issue and give to much gas or not the right amount of air to the intake... Just from what i have happen to me I would look for a leaking vaccume line or a clogged cataltic converter befor replaceing the sensors both can give a false o2 reading on the computer and seem to be more common on most cars..

Im getting a code 51 from the on borad computer on

Do you mean P0051??

If you do, then it's an issue with one of your O2 Sensors.

You may have a short in the heater circuit in the sensor
The O2 sensor heater has failed
The wires connecting the sensor are broken or frayed

Most likely you will need to replace the sensor.
The sensor is Bank 2 Sensor 1
Bank 2 means it is located opposite of where cylinder 1 is (not sure where cylinder 1 is on your car) and Sensor 1 will mean it's the sensor located before the catalytic converter

O2 sensor trouble code

420 and 136 codes are O2 sensors. 420 is the downstream (aft of converter) should be sending a constant reading. 136 is the up-stream and should be sending a flux reading.

O2 sensor?

The O2 sensor is located in the exhaust pipe prior to the catalytic converter. You'll have to get under the vehicle to see it or replace it.

Just maybe your O2 sensors are not operating properly. They may be requiring your engine to heat them up to get upper temperature readings but not lower. You can easily diagnose these and all other sensors and problems by purchasing a Hains manual at your local Auto Zone or Advance auto store which will greatly aide you in diagnosing all your auto needs. And the fault symptom index at the beginning of the book will ease your troubles with professional one on one advice with step by step instructions. Its like having your own ASE certified mechanic at your finger tips. Good luck.
