Yes. you can disconnect either the neg or pos cable from the battery. failure to do so can result in a surge hitting the ECM...and frying it. as a rule of thumb...anytime you work on anything under the hood, except for oil canges...disconnect the battery. safety is first!!!

How do you replace a ecm module on the 1998 dodge ram diesel 2500?

You can find a ecm at autozone but if not you can find one at the dealer, make sure that you handle this part with care, also make sure the ecm is ready to install, you need this things before installing the ecm latex gloves, you also need to ground your self to prevent any shock with ecm by doing this you need a wire with the one end to the ground of the car and the other end to your self you can buy one at autozone, NEVER TOUCH ECM WITH OUT GLOVES this is a very sensitive and delicate part, unplug the negative cable from battery then unplug all the wires from ECM unscrew the ecm and replace the new one, screw the new ecm plug in all the wires and connect the negative cable that's it your done good luck!!!!

How do you replace a eec on 95 taurus do you have to have a salvage computer from junkyard reset to the car.

Your ecm is behind your glove compartment and goes through your firewall when you pull it out their will be a tag on it you need one weather new or used with the same numbers on it.make sure your problem is not your wireing harnes directly behind the engine the harness sometime comes loose and drops onto the manifold slowly melting the wires and shorting out the ecm .causeing intermittent problems. The only reset on ecm is remove battery cable when replaceing and reconnect cable when completed please rate this if you find helpful

How do i reinstall a computer on a 1997 nissan maxima?

The first thing you always do is disconnect the negative battery cable. Now locate the ECM or computer. It should be right beside the accelerator pedal on that model. There is usually an access panel there that covers it unless soneone has removed it and discarded it. there is one plastic screw holding the panel on but it also hooks on the right side as well. remove the EMC mounting screws and pull the unit out. Now remove the multi wired plug from the rear of the ECM and install your new ECM. Reinstall into the mounting and replace the cover. Reconnect the negative battery cable. now the car should start and run normally if there are no other problems. Thank you for asking at
