Hi!!

Your best bet is to get a Haynes Repair Manual for your type of vehicle. You can find it at your favorite AutoParts store for about $20.

In that manual you'll find step by step instruccions, do's and dont's, torque settings, etc. in other words everything you need to know to replace your clutch.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck1!

There is no adjustment you need to replace the clutch release bearing, it is dry on grease.

I have a 02 Saturn and my clutch is giving me some problems..when the car is on the clutch pedal won't allow me to engage in any gears, but when turned off it allows me to shift no problem. Checked all the...

You have one of these two things going on....Either the clutch master cylinder is internally bypassing or the clutch itself has gone bad. If you can pump the clutch and sometimes be able to shift, the master is bad. If the clutch pedal feels normal, then I'd suspect the actual clutch disc is worn out.
Your clutch has little to do with shifting with the engine off as nothing is turning and engaging the gears is not a problem. Have an experienced tech take a look at it if in doubt ...should take all of five minutes to determine what's wrong.

No, the transmission can be removed without doing that. You will need to support the engine.

Will a 95 saturn 1.9 manual transmission bolt to a 98 saturn 1.9 automatic transmission?

This is the automotive equivalent of a ***-change operation. In short, dont do it...
The problem you have is not if the tranny will fit (which it won't as a direct bolt-in replacement), the problem is in everything else that needs to be moded. Your engines computer is not programed to recognize or work with a manual tranny. You would need to modify the console to accept a manual shifter, install a clutch and clutch pedal assembly, plumb the needed fluid systems, and replace the entire wiring harness in the engine bay. In short, if you are asking - this won't go well and even if it did work, the car would not be reliable. By the time you spend everything involved in this project, it would be much cheaper to buy a 95 or 98 Saturn with the transmission that you prefer.

You may need new clutch hydrallics which is a self contained assembly that includes the master, slave and lines which is replaced as a unit. Saturn part # 21120474.Then you can expect one push of the pedal which will provide full throw-out.

Check the cable clips at the trans. Sometimes these clips come out and won't shift. Horseshoe clips that hold the cable housing.

Clutch Replacement

I just checked my AllData repair info. It does not mention removing the engine to replace the clutch. It does say that you'll have to support the engine to remove the transaxle. If done on jack stands, this is easily done with a floor jack and block of wood under the engine's oil pan.
