The rotor of the distributor rotates clockwise as you look down into it, there should be a mark on the cap - or a raised area to locate the 2 / 1 meeting position.

start clockwise of the mark and the first point is plug 1, then 3 and so on till 4. after 4 you should feel / see the mark again.

How to Connect sparplug wires in the correct fireing order?

The firing order is 1342 Number 1 should be marked on the distributor cap . start from there , notice the direction the rotor turns, next terminal on the caps goes to number 3 cylinder and so on. to find number one if the cap is not marked do the following. remove number 1 spark plug and turn engine over till compression is felt, line up the timing marks on the crank pulley and timing cover. remove the dist. cap the rotor is now pointing to number 1 position on the cap.

Do i disconnect spark plug wires from valve cover or leave those in and disconnect from distributor instead... 97 honda accord

Depends on what you are trying to do.
If you are removing the valve cover leave the wires attached to the distributor cap.

On a 97 honda accord, the firing order is 1342, how do the wires hook into the cap?

No. one piston is on the right side, , and they just count ,,1,2,3,4., the dist is just 1,3,4,2. That is a 2.2, sohc, the 1.6 is the same The rotor is at 6 o-clock on the 2.2 and 12-30 on the 1.6 .Hope this helps.

The firing order on most inline 4's is 1-3-4-2. If number one is marked on the cap then all you have to do is take the cap off and have someone crank the engine with the starter to see which way the rotor turns.
If the cap is not marked remove number spark plug and hold your finger over the hole, while some one bumps the starter. When you feel compression (air blow out of the hole) stop, look at which terminal on the distributor cap the rotor is pointing to, that wire goes to number one. Number one is the one closest to the belt end of the engine. Good luck!

I cant remember where my leeds go on my distributor cap

how many cylinders? for 4 the firing order is 1342 for example--if you have 6 or 8 lookit up on the net and you will find the firing order and then just count round the distibutor and hook up accordingly--modern cars don't have this issue--no distributor.
