Trailer Light Kit (2007 Jeep Wrangler)

2 Questions:

(i) I need a light kit for my Jeep. The dealership wants $80+ for a 7 prong (round) kit. I can buy a universal [4-prong] plug from Auto Zone for $30. Should I be concerned about purchasing from AutoZone?

(ii) The dealership does not stated that a 4-prong (flat) kit is no longer available after 2006 models. Why would this be the case? Are they just trying to sell me a $80 unnecessary part? I do realize that converters are available.

Thank You!

I would not hesitate to buy it from auto zone. The 7 prong will have only 3-4 usable prongs, the others will be empty. The flat 4 prong is the same, just flat and only have the usable prongs. I work for BOSCH and this is a big example how bad people get ripped off. We make an aftermarket oxygen sensor for almost any car. It's produced for about $7. Sold to parts store for $12, and then sold to you for $60+ , It is produced the same way with the same components. But we also make the OEM for $7, sold to dealerships for $17 and cost you $100+. Dealerships are a rip off, but people hesitate to buy aftermarket parts when they are usually 100% made the same. It's all about money in the long haul for these dealerships. So buy the aftermarket 4 prong kit.

I wouldn't worry about the AutoZone one. It's the same color coded wire as in the kits from other places. You can also check:

They have kits that have the round plug for under $20.

Want to put the connector on for a trailer which wires go where?

the dealer has a kit.
or go to walfart see rack with trailer kits. see if one fits yours.
or at any autostore on earth.
the trailer will be 4 wire and many cars (most) are not compatible to 4 wire trailers. L,R,T, Ground,
so that kit has the logic adaptor the makes it all work.

read the instructions if confused ask questions.

Where is the trailer fuse located on a 2012 jeep grand cheroke

depends if the person , installing trailer setup
used the factory kit
or just cut in to your wiring.

my 2010 WK has a fuse.
why not say what fails.? first.
blinkers L and R
parking lights.
and if the cars lights are effected?????? or hazards.

which location, will the fuses are all under-hood.
the operators guide names them all , lost that.

the factory kit comes with trailer relays to add to system.
this protects the system best from trailers that short out.
best is to set it up like that. using real jeep kit.
but we can fix yours. as soon as you answer the questions.
im not posted all fuses for all 4 circuits,

My left rear directional is out, i replaced the bulb but it still won't work - do i need to replace the brake light

Make sure you have the correct bulb for the vehicle. If so check
for power at bulb with tester. Also, if you have a trailer hitch
wiring kit on it may have corrosion build up at connector.

How to wire a jeep wrangler for towing behind a motorhome using a 7 way rv connector . the jeep has three wires, brown, green and yellow. green and yellow are turn signals, I am having problems with the...

I tow my 2005 Jeep Wrangler behind my motor home. I installed a Jeep trailer towing wiring kit to the rear lights. the bought a long trailer wiring kit and ran it from the front of the Jeep to the Jeep tralier wire plug. Pluged it in and pluged the other end into the motor home trailer light recptacle. I used only four wires plus ground. There is probably a way you could tap into the wiring harnes under the hood but not having a wiring diagram this is the best I could come up with and all lights do work. You can buy a test plug with led lights that plugs in both male and female, real handy for checking connections.

Trying to install wiring kit for trailer on a 2003 chevy malibu

On the trailer plug
Yellow= Right turn/brake
Green= Left turn/brake
Brown is marker lights
white is the ground.
You might want to check with a parts store to see if a "hoppy" plug is available, it plugs into the factory harness and make it much easier and neater. Lee

I have a 2004 jeep grand cherokee i installed a 4 way flat plug for a utility trailer. I installed as instructions said but have no brake lights on the trailer, Everything else works. can you help me?

you will need to add an trailer light adaptor for this vehicle. this adaptor will combine the brake and signals from two separate sources. this unit can be purchased at walmart, Canadian Tire, Partsource, autozone. trailer shops. it will fix your issue. or purchase the vehicl specific kit for your Jeep.

Do you need a towing wiring harness kit for 1999 jeep wrangler?

You can buy a simple light connector at most auto supply that requires you to splice it into existing wires. Very simple.

2007 Nissian Frontier trailer lights

There should be a 30 AMP mini blade fuse in the fuse box under the hood that you are probably missing. I assume that since you got the relays with the wiring kit, that you got the kit from a Nissan dealer. If that is true, there should be a fuse in the kit also- in a sealed bag that has the "trailer wiring harness owner's manual" in it.

Hope this is helpful!

Jeep 2008 unlimted trailer wiring

I just bought a wiring adapter from mopar for this. you take off the rear tail light on the drivers side and unplug it from its harness. the mopar wiring kit i bought plugs into the wiring from the car and has two outputs on it. one for the tail light and a longer one that will run down thru the frame and come out under the bottom by the bumper in just the right spot. i has the plastic clips in just the right spots for snapping into the frame underneath too. took me 5 min to install no splicing required. i got mine off ebay for about $20. super easy! good luck!
