Question about 1991 Cadillac Seville

1 Answer

91 Seville 120k mi solid car good runner Recently, shift lever movement causes the engine to kill. It's random - P to D or P to R or D to N, whatever. When its starts, engine, trans, accessories are fine. Moving the Shifter could at any time kill it. When it dies, it won't restart for several hours or overnight. Turning key from Off to Run to Start does nothing. Instrument panel lamps do not light up, starter is dead quiet, no solenoid clicks, no spinning. Accessories not tied to ignition are OK (seats, lights, wipers, etc). Swapped neutral start switch, no change. Checked in console for linkage hanging up on wires, all looks OK. There's a molded plastic case to the right of the linkage - is this a sensor housing? Reference manual does not ID this part. Advice on ignition switch checking might help along the line. Ref manual explains changing it but not checking it. Need to get this running for my son to use for work during semester break. Currently, I am unemployed with very limited rescources.

1994 Ford Escort, auto trans, 83,000 mi, randomly won't shift from 1st to 2nd, randomly loses power at hwy speeds

It could be an internal problem with a pump, or it could be it needs to be serviced really bad. Most 'oil change' places can also do transmission services... I'd try that first, before paying a big repair bill to a shop. good luck.

Find a good transmission shop or a friend that is capable. It sounds like either your linkage may have been compromised or you need some serious transmission repair.

Overdrive dosen't shift in.

Make sure u have a good thermostat in it. The engine temp must be at certain temp then a signal is sent to the transmission so it will shift into overdrive. Bought my 4 runner,91, was shifting fine until started getting cold then stopped all of a sudden. Checked the thermostat and it was in but had been gutted which allowed the engine not to warm up sufficient to allow the trans to shift into overdrive. Changed thermostat about $8, hasn't skipped a beat since.

Just recently got a 2000 Cadillac Seville SLS with 58,000 miles. It was my late aunts. It pretty much sat in her driveway for a couple of years. Very limited use. I started to drive it and it ran great....

Findout the code. You Said It's Realated To The Transmission I Just Pick Mine Up For What I Belive Is The Samething The Tcc & The Code Is P1860 Thats The Tourque Converter Circuit! You Should Getit Changed Because It'll Save You Gas Pluse Less Tress On The Transmission & Engine & Could Cause Gear **** Stall !

91 Tracker wont shift out of first gear.

It sounds like you got an incomplete transmission. The shift shaft shoould have a cup at the end of it to put the shift lever into. I hope this helps.
Thank You,
