Question about 1994 Cadillac DeVille
This 87 yr old ladies deville has gotten her 11 mpg since new. I did notice the dash says she averages only 13 mph which i doubt is right but that isnt really the issue anyway. Is it just the nature of this particular car or is there a way to help her? Yes it has a fresh set of platinum plugs in it and has 54k miles on the car, filters fresh. Someone said to change all 3 oxygen sensors, but i doubt it would make the car get 11mpg , plus this is an existing issue forever it seems on this particular car. Computer reprogram maybe? I dont know, do you?
Scrap this gas guzzling machine and recommend an electric car or a peugeot 107 or a citreon C1 that do 50+++++ miles per gallon

Have you ridin with her to see if maybe she's doing something to cause the less than desirable mileage like putting the car in the wrong gear, drive instead of over-drive, riding the brakes, or anything else.

The Cadillac Deville is a large and heavy luxury car with a V-8 so they do not get the best gas mileage for in city driving. Being that it is a 1987 model the gas mileage will be lower than today's models. Most elderly people do mostly in city driving for very short distances. These short trips can cause the gas mileage to be lower than average people who travel at freeway speeds. I think it is more of a "Driving Habit" issue then anything else. These short trips do not give the vehicle enough time to lean out after warming up and will run richer than normal using more fuel. If all you do is make 5 minute trips to the store ect then the gas mileage will be greatly affected.

The computer has to reset it self, this is what was told to me by a cadillac dealer, we were getting 12 miles a gallon on are 01 eldo we took the car to florida and about 300 miles in, the car started to get better mileage, on the way back we were getting 32 miles to the gallon 2 weeks later it was back to city driving and back to 12 miles to the gallon? must be a caddy thing
