There are 2 different versions of fuel pumps on these trucks. There is a frame mounted one just under drivers side up in framerail right behind the engine. If it is not there then it is in tank and you will need to drop your tank. 2 straps hold it in. Make sure you know how much fuel is in and and that you are aware that it m ay be heavy. Once out remove the twist ring holding it on by twisting it counterclockwise. it will pop off. You may need to tap it with a hammer and a screw driver. Once removed reach down inside. There are 2 clips holding it into a plastic housing. go to the bottom side of the clips and pull up carefully. too much and you can break them. You will feel it pop loose. then you can remove the pump and back together you go.

It's right under the drivers seat on the frame rail. three bolts hold it on. Push in the clips to remove fuel lines and special tool to remove other hoses. (They use both type for some reason.)

Ford 550 not starting

Urbon, Could be a lot of things causing your F550 not to start, bad fuel, clogged filters, faulty fuel pump, faulty IDM(injector driver module), low voltage to injectors, etc. Check oil level as a first step and top up to full if needed. If you can have the truck scanned by a good diesel tech., diagnosed and estimate repair. See attached No start diesel engine diagnostic links. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Is this a diesel or gas vehicle ? and what engine does it have ? They all have different type of systems . Diesels have a low pressure and high pressure pump and IPC and IPR valves . Gas vehicles have different controls ,( FPDM ) fuel pump driver module that is controlled by the engine computer ,with the help of a fuel rail pressure sensor. There is problem with the FPDM because of it's location under the vehicle . ATT.NET7.3 POWERSTROKE WONT IDLE 99 MODEL

According to my Haynes Diesel Engine Repair manual this is a list of possible causes.
1.Slow idle incorrectly adjusted
2.Fast idle is inoperative
3.Restricted fuel return system
4.Glow plugs turn off too soon
5.Insufficient fuel suuply to injector pump
6.Injector pump malfunction
7.Incorrect, contaminated or poor quality fuel
8.Air in fuel.
The manual is part number 10330 anywhere they sell Haynes manuals ($20). It has a very good section on the 7.3 especially if you don't want to spend money at a diesel shop every time it needs work. Hope this helps.

Ford F-350 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel very hard to start when cold.

have you ever replaced the glow plugs on your truck.this would be the first place to start with a cold start problem.the next thing would be a fuel pump problem to check.

which diesel eng does the truck have? If its the powerstroke it is located on the firewall, if it is the non-powerstroke(IDI) engine it does not have one as the fuel pump is mechanical.

04 f250 diesel cranks but won't start

this is an oil pressure problem, either a sensor is not sensing enough oil pressure, or the high pressure pump is not building enough pressure(possibly leaking or head is leaking). this engine requires 450 psi minimum oil pressure at the injectors to actuate the injectors.
