The hissing you heard may be caused by a failing electrical connection at the battery, between chassis and the negative terminal or at the +12 volt terminal of the starter.
Before tossing the battery, it would be worthwhile to clean the terminals and clamps with a simple tool from any auto parts store that has internal and external wire brushes. If you have a means of charging, follow up the cleanup with a recharge.

BTW; always remove the negative terminal first to prevent unsettling arcs that may damage battery and tool.
If you are in the US, call any of the chain auto parts stores and ask if they install free; many do.
If that is the original battery, it may indeed be time for replacement but I would give it a chance first.

Under the hood, remove the cables and take the old out and put the new one in

There are metal braces and a fuse box on top. I took out the bolts but cannot get those things out.

My 2000 buick lesabre was low on oil am guessing because it started to knock so i stop to the gas station n order 3qtz of oil and put them in at home and then when i cutted my car off n started it back up...

sorry but sounds fatal. bearings are siezed therefore battery voltage isnt enough to rotate the engine. THIS IS BAD. new bearings alone wont fix...probably less expensive to replace engine with a warrantied salvage engine.

My 91 ford f150 wont start up , my wife said she went to start it it was hissing and the engine started shaking then made a pop noise, I checked the battery and battery cables the battery cables where lose...

Could be a shorted out starter, or starter solenoid. If you dont know how to check or repair, maybe have ot towed to a repair shop. It may seem expensive, but its cheaper than guessing.

Turn the starter nothing..turn starter nothing...lights &radio work..keep turning and finally it will start but it makes a dragy sound first like the battery is dead

Everything makes sense - except "makes a dragy sound first like the battery is dead" I am not being a smart *** here - but the sound of a dead battery is SILENCE.

You can crank your engine... but is needs lots of cranking before it will finally start... is that right?

The device that sets the fuel injectors intake to start (rich mixture) may not be working - or may be dirty.

Try spraying fuel injector cleaner into your air filter line (AFTER the air filter) with the engine running. That will clean things and may clear your problem...
If not, you will need a device replacement - described as the equivalent of a "Choke" on a fuel injection system.

Turns over but wont start

Some questions to help in the analysis........

You say "it cranked for about 3 seconds and died as if I turned off the key" did it actually start and then die?
Have there been any clues (unusual happenings) recently that might relate to the current problem?

Is there a reason the battery went dead? was something left on? Lights, etc?

How old is the battery?
