Question about 2003 Volkswagen Beetle TDI

I acclerated quickly in my 2003 VW Beetle & the check engine light came on. It's not flashing, just steady. The manuel said the light would go off once the engine idle steadied, but it did not.

That could be an over boost trouble code thrown by the MAP sensor alot of the ford powerstroke trucks do it and sometimes the light comes on and then goes right off other times it will stay on for a few days nothing to really worry about as long as everything is working as it should hope this helps

Glad I could help you can probably find more info about it on a TDI forum also a boost gauge will tell you about what psi the light will go on.

Over boost condition will trip a code too. The N75 Solenoid Valve controls boost and often these fail.

When boost is too high fuel is reduced to save the engine. Check vacuum hoses from and to the N75 valve.
Whilst driving, you can switch the ignition off and back on quickly to reset boost control if you loose power. To reduce times it over boost, go easy on the throttle and try not to ever bury the throttle pedal in the carpet.

It is a small square metal valve with three vac' hoses and a electrical connector on it.

Trace the small Black vac' hose from the side of the air filter housing back to the valve. It usually lives on the firewall.

My 2001 VW Beetle started losing speed when I go up a hill, and when I try to excellerate, it bogs down worse and the check engine light flashes off and on.

you sound like your catylitic converter is trying to stop up. When this happens check and have someone race the engine and fill and see if you have a good flow of exhaust coming out of your tail pipe and see if it is real hot .A good way is if it happens at night look at yourn converter and see if its red from the converter to the engine thats a sure sign thats your converter is stopped up.If its not then if the light stays on go to an advance store or some other place and they wont charge you to check and tell you what the obd 2 code is and post that back and let me know what the code is .Hope This Helps

Days after my 50K checkup (no probs), my 2003 VW Beetle convertible check engine light goes on. What can it be & do I really need to take it back to dealer/checkup folks (far & inconvenient)?

The check engine light can be one of many things, even as simple as a loose gas cap. A check engine light means there are error codes in your car's computer. Stop by an auto parts store and ask them to pull the codes. Most of the national chain stores will do it for free. Takes about 5 minutes...

I have a 1998 vw new beetle. The check engine light came on and not sure why. The car seems to be running fine. Last week we replaced the tensioner pulley and a new belt. Now I have the engine light on....

Some auto parts stores scan check engine lights for free. If you can get the code, and tell me what your engine/trans is in the Beetle, I can help narrow down the cause of the check engine light.

Just got a 2003 vw new beetle. The check engine light came on yesterday. Took it to autozone for them to check for code and all the computer says is cannot connect. Please help

This is probably 2 separate problems. The fuses to your Data Link connector are fuse #5 and fuse #12 in the fuse block under the left side of the insrument panel. They are both 7.5 amp fuses. If they are good, then you will have to do some diagnostics to find out why your engine computer will not communicate. If they are blown, replace them and try scanning your computer again.

The warning light above the airbag light on the dash. 2002 VW

Malfunction indicator light it is the symbol of your engine with a line of suffering and the word "CHECK" -- this could be something minor like needing a spark plug to be replaced (common problem) or to something more serious like engine electrical work needed. a flashing engine light is the more serious so you are not to worry.
