Question about 1993 Toyota Camry V6

1 Answer

I had already posted a question about my 93 toyota camry 4cyclinder 2.2 about a possible hole in front of exhaust system and how bad and rough it is running, and someone posted a comment on how it could be a flex pipe problem...My next question is, where is the flex pipe, is it somewhere connected to the exhaust system or in some part of engine? Car is leaking exhaust really bad, running very sluggish, dying and don't want to stay running and is very loud almost like a lawn mower...any other ppossible suggestions?

Toyota camry has engine code P0430 cat ineffiency. .We just had car repaired for evaporative leak codes > They replaced one of the evap sensors. now they are telling me a cat is bad

Bank 2 is in the front of the engine compartment (closest to the radiator). Sensor 2 is downstream (after) the catalyst. Follow the exhaust system down and replace the one after the cat. If you have an graphing OBD2 scan tool- graph both the bank 1 sensor 2 and bank 2 sensor 2 and compare their wave form. If bank 2 sensor 2 is cycling up and down more so than bank 1- you likely DO have a failed or failing precatalyst.

Hole in exhaust system in front of car, car dies often and very shaky. it runs very rough and very loud. there is also something smoking under the hood but car is not over heating and all fluids are still...

if it is a 4 cyl they are known for the flex pipe breaking the only fix is unfortunely replacment as far as the smoking sounds like you have a leak onto the exhaust have the oilpan and rear main checked

How do i test egr system on 93 toyota camry

Testing steps:

  • Remove the vacuum hose on the top of the EGR valve and plug it.
  • Connect a short hose to the EGR valve.
  • Start the car.
  • Now **** on the hose, or use an appropriate tool to apply suction to the line
  • this will open the EGR valve the engine should stumble and try to die.
If it does the EGR valve is working.
There is an "Exhaust gas manifold pressure sensor" that measures the exhaust gas flow to the EGR valve. The problem is the sensor itself becomes clogged with exhaust carbon and gives the computer a fixed false reading, the computer in turn sends too much vacuum to the EGR valve and the engine runs rough, surges and may die.

Is it worth it to get the exhaust system replaced?

does your exhaust system have holes in it ?or maybe the muffler?
if so then you will be in front getting it done ,doing it bit by bit can be expensive. these exhaust shops can do it miles cheaper than toyota, but if you just want to sound "sporty" then dont bother." a loud exhaust never won the fair maiden"

Hi Mike.

You have 2 issues, and you really need to get the growl issue checked ASAP. What your noise is, is probably a bad water pump. I change them daily. Just did one this morning. The water pump is driven by the timing belt. If the pump locks up, you will ruin the belt, and the car will not restart. Get it checked, replace the pump.

On the P-0401, you have a blockage in the EGR valve, or the tube going to it is carboned up. This is another common issue.

Please let me know about the pump.
A FixYa rating for my assistance would be greatly aappreciated.
Thnaks in advance.
