Is there a access panel in the 1998 grand Cherokee jeep without dropping the gas tank

I replaced the fuel pump in a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport without having to remove the gas tank. Maybe you can too in your '98 Grand Cher. If your fuel pump is accessed from the upper front of the gas tank-above the rear differential-then you should be able to remove the pump with the tank in place. It was easy on that jeep of my son's, took only about an hour or two.

there is no external fuel filter on your jeep, in 1997 they changed the design and put a filter sock over the fuel pump intake in the fuel tank. they only get changed when you end up replacing the fuel pump

The fuel filter sits on top of the fuel pump. It is the fuel fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. You will have to drop the gas tank to access it. Hope this helps.

Best of luck

Where is the fuel pump inertia switch located on a 1998 Cherokee?

there isnt one. if the fuel pump does not run, ck the ASD and FUEL PUMP RELAYS. Turn the key on and listen real close to the fuel tank, see if you can hear it come on the 2 seconds, Sometimes you can rap on the tank with a mallet or board when cranking, and this will knock it loose, it that gets it running you will need to replace the fuel pump.

Fuel Odor on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The evap system ( fuel vapor recovery system ) , if there is a leaky hose, can let fumes out that can be detected in the cab. If you "top off" the fuel at the pump you can spill fuel into the charcoal canister meant for fuel vapors only. the vapor recovery system is behind the left rear tire.

Usually if there is a hose leak a check engine light will come on.

If you TOP OFF, don't. If you don't, good. Hope this helps.

Fuel gauge

you either have a bad sending unit, which iit is in the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a hole in the float and it fills with gas and sinks, which it's also on the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a bad fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. it's more than likely a sending unit problem, jeeps are bad about the sending unit to quit working
