Try cleaning the MAF sensor (mass airflow sensor) with some spray brake parts cleaner, let air dry and reinstall. The sensor is located in the airflow duct system leading into the carburetion area and has a wire connection hooked to it. My cousin had this problem on his 2000 4 runner but had to end up replacing his, about $80. Will spin the rear tires now.

My car has been having a rough idle with backfire and flickering lights.

Raymond, is this a stick shift or automatic? Here are some general solutions to your problem, it might not be the one, but its a start. 1.Rough idle could be caused by dirty fuel injectors, dirty air filters, fuel pump not delivering enough fuel to the engine. The air filter is an easy check.

My 1988 dodge d150 runs rough when cold and going uphills

how old is this truck ? needs complete tuneup, new air & fuel filters, wintertime brings out the all the problems, also, replace EGR valve, & PCV valve, they will choke the hell out of the engine, your filters are very important also, if there dirty/old, they will starve the engine. talk to the ole girl while you do all this work, she'll respond, I promise !!!! make sure all the vacumn lines are good, tighten all throttle body bolts, etc

2001 hyundai elantra running rough no power

Have you checked the air filter and filter box for a blockage ?
Low fuel pressure would also be a possible cause.

Lost of power when accelerate, changed fuel filter but worse. engine light on also.

im assuming since u say u changed fuel filter that this is acummins diesel. and when u say that made it wirse it makes me suspect a failing/failed lift pump. the lift pump supplies low pressure fuel to your injection pump which creates the pressure for your engine to make hp/torwue sounds like enigine may have been starving for fuel then when filter replaced air in system caused further starvation. replace your lift pump

My dodge cummins will not always start. It turns over but will not fire. the temp is around 90F. when it does start it will not accelerate properly, like it is starving for gas.

Actually i think it is starving for air much more than fuel. Check your air filter, it's probably very dirty or there is something cloging the air intake on either side of the filter. I once saw a diesel start to **** in its 2 air filters cause they were too dirty. It sucked them into the intake duct just enough for the corners to pry and let the air through the newly created holes. So check the air filter first and air intake ducts to make sure it has all the air it needs cause monster diesels need monster air.

Lose of power on acceleration like its starving

Sounds like there is a load of dirty fuel in that gas tank. Ran good for a while after changing fuel filter, then began to run poorly again. Remove fuel tank, drain and clean out, replace fuel filter AGAIN. That should cure it. Hope this helps

Having a problem with my 93 camry v6. car shakes when it is idle, when i accelerate car makes a clunking noise and doesnt accelerate as fast as it used to. also check engine light is on. could it be dirty...

Most likely you need motor mounts for the shaking and clunking.
The check engine light being on could cause the accelerating problem. It could be something as simple as the fuel filter being old and plugged up. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? This could cause the engine to run lean making the check engine light come on. And when accelerating the engine will be "starving" for fuel causing poor acceleration.
