Changed out starter on my 02 Dakota and my truck is still trying to start on its own. Something is telling the starter to keep running even after the truck is running.

I've tried that I have switched the starter relay within the ECU with other relays they all have the same numbers on them. And it still does it

Check your starter relay.

What I meant was, your starter relay probably isn't disengaging. That is what send your signal to the starter. Usually when your starter keeps going, it is the relay that is doing it. I would replace the relay, and that should fix you up.

Did you shim your starter when you replaced it?

97 dodge dakota keeps burning out starters

Excessive current going thru the starter is the culprit. Something, is causing too much drag on the motor, it spins slower, uses more juice, and burns up. If you cannot locate the source of the friction, you might want to look into a heavy duty starter that can withstand the rigors better without burning out.

2004 dodge durango runs good but every know and than when i try to start it, it wont start but if i put jumper cables to it starts right up and car is good to go a few days later same problem any ideas...

Either something is draining the starting voltage from your battery.. A short or grounded circuit. Or your starter or starter solenoid is starting to go. Starters need a certain range of voltage to engage and start. As they get older they wear and require more voltage to kick in and start.. Have your battery and starter tested under load that way you can tell the condition of the starter

Engine keeps turning over with key off

does it keep running or does the starter keep turning. Either way it sounds like something within the ignition switch has gone bad.

95 dodge dakota - cranks, runs 4 times, 5th don't wanna run

You will need to check the fuel pressure, if it is on the minimum pressure side or lower then you will need to change the fuel pump.

My 95 Dodge Dakota won't start. The electrical seems to be working fine but the engine won't even try to turn over

sounds like you may have a defective starter solenoid, the contacts in the solenoid get burnt and u get a no crank.

Had this happen on my 2001 Dakota. It was the throttle position sensor, replaced it and now runs good. Tranny shop did it.
