It could also be that your catalytic converter is plugged up; therefore, you would need to replace.

My mazda 626 always has trouble starting and when it do start up I have to help keep it running so it wont cut off but then it stays running on its own

When was the last "healthy" tune up? Plugs, wires, all fluids and filters including FUEL filter? I'd start there before throwing parts at it. Tuning it will give you a good "ground zero" starting point.

1999 Mazda LX stopped running about 1/10th of a mile after starting the car. Checked the fuel pump and it is good.

Try pulling the vacuum hose off of the EGR valve as it starts to hesitate just before it dies. If the engine dies try pulling the hose off and then restarting the engine. If that doesn't help replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pump relay.

Check fuel pressure at injector rail. Also verify transmission fluid level.

Check the Fuel injection system (injectors) and the intake manifold. It might also be wise to check the alternator as well as the starter coil and also the electronic distributor

maybe the starter or wire connections are bad? see if theres a way to turn the engine manually so you know it's not locked up...make sure the spark plug wire is off!
