Why would you ignore, assuming you have, the ABS light. You must surely realize why it is on. Most likely, you have a bad Wheel Speed Sensor or othe ABS issue.
You need to immediately check for codes and make the necessary repairs, when any light comes on.
Also you can not pass inspection if your system is not clear and reset.

Your ABCM probably needs to be replaced. Cost for this is usually 500$. Most of the time you can drive it just fine, however, if you come into a situation where you need your anti-lock brakes they might not work properly.

I hate to say it, but the abs control module might have died on you. Thats the boxy looking thing under the hood that has a lot of brake lines and wire connectors going into it. I have seen this happen before and it ended up being one of the speed sensors on the wheels but usually its the module. Take the truck somewhere to get the light scanned, and that will give you a better idea of what it is.

I have a 97 sunfire. When I was installing an after market stereo I took the center console (semi) apart to run some wires. Now many things happened during this process. One, I moved the shifter into gear...

If you spliced into a black ground wire , you may have got the wire that goes to the e brake. There is power going to the brake light and when you pull the brake handle it makes the closed circuit and turns on the light. this may take care of the abs also. This is the only thing that I know of that could possibly be in that area to effect the e brake light. This may also lead to the other problems, if you cut the brake wire to use as a ground , then the radio may not be grounded. I am sure that you have already checked fuses. And to check if the ABS is working find yourself some gravel and hit the brakes if it locks up, the the ABS is no working. When the ABS is out it reverts to normal braking. ie... the brakes will lock the tires up. Retrace your steps I am sure you can figure it out. Randy

1999 Olds Silhouette -- Problem - ABS & Brake Traction light "coming on" on the instrament panel. Brake fluid level "full". Brake pads & shoes "new". No brake fluid is getting to the REAR brakes....

The ABS light is on because there is a fault in the abs system, The traction control uses the abs system so it will also not work if the abs is not working. You'll need to scan the ABS module to see what code is stored in its memory. Once you have the code you'll have a better idea of what needs to be repaired.

Light came on in the middle of a long ride (250 miles) no traffic, weather clear, car still brakes just fine

You mean the ABS light? It only shows the abs system is not working, you will still have brakes, but no anti lock. The light will not go off, it is catatonic. Till you fix it, and most people don't fix it, it is expensive, and a piece of tape over the light works good. My light came on 10 years ago, still on, no anti lock brakes, never noticed they weren't there. Hope this helps.

Brake, abs and dsc lights game on

theres a problem with the abs, when the abs has a problem the brake and abs light come on, also dsc light does too, because it uses the abs to control the system so when abs doesnt work it shuts down the dsc and turns the light on, you will need to have the abs system scanned for codes these codes will give an idea of whats not working and it can be diagnosed why.

Without any reason the "ABS failure ligth" came up car drives

your brakes will work just fine. the abs light means your car will not have abs. if you are ok driving your car without abs then dont worry about it. if you drive in a lot of snow or just want abs then i would take it to be serviced. it could be something like a wheel sensor that went bad or bad wire or you abs or if you replaced a caliper or something like that it could just be air in the lines but then you would notice that the brakes are spungy. it might not be a bad idea just to check the fluid level and go from there.

'98 Windstar ABS and traction control lights after getting brakes done

Prior to the brakes being replaced you more than likely had metal to metal contact which can throw metal shavings on the ABS wheel sensors. This metal shavings stick to the road grime on the wheel sensors showing the ABS computer a false reading making the ABS light come on. On Ford Windstars, the ABS light and the traction control light are on the same circuit. A simple (and cheap) fix is to pull the ABS wheel sensors and clean them with brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Make sure you dry them well and reinstall. On the Windstar there is one bold holding the sensors to the back of the wheels. I recommend you spray some WD40 on the bold and wait about 10 minutes before removing.
If this doesn't fix the ABS light and brakes, you can have the ABS system diagnosed at a shop for about an hour labor. (Usally about $100)
I have fixed many of these type of problems just by cleaning the ABS wheel sensors. Good luck.
