Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

1 Answer

The car wouldn't start, good battery

The car wouldn't start, no turning over or anything. The gauge lights and radio came on but started to dim out. We got the battery jumped it started, but when we would come to a stop, the car would feel like it was about to die out and the lights would dim. We got the battery checked, and it is still a good battery. What could it be causing the car to want to die out?

Alternator.

My car repair shop has run numerous computer tests on my car for this problem and nothing comes up. It starts 70% of the time with no trouble. My issues are the same as his, but once it's started it's fine. Could this just be a fan or a wire? If it's the alternator why doesn't it show on the tests?

I have a 1996 Astro Van that after running multiple errands and had been parked for approx. 6 hrs. would not start or even turn over. I thought it was the battery but the gauge shows that it is fine. ...

The voltage gauge only says what the battery voltage is. It is entirely possible that the battery's current capability can be severely weak even though the voltage looks normal. An easy check for the start circuit is to turn on the dome light and try to crank the engine. If the dome light doesn't dim and there is no attempt to start, then the battery is not the problem. If the dome light goes very dim or goes out completely, then the battery is too weak to crank the engine. If the battery is not the problem, then since there is no click or anything, the problem could be:
(1) Starter
(2) Neutral safety switch
(3) Ignition switch
(4) Start circuit wiring

2007 Dodge Caravan won't start.Batt. is good, all lights work, Turn key, solenoid clicks and stops, all gauge needles slowly move to max., and return to min. No codes displayed.

When you try to start it do the lights dim way low, have you been able to start it with a jump from another vehicle, unfortunately, chances are the starter needs to be replaced. How many miles does it have?

Sounds like your alternater, get a multimeter set it to volts start the car then check the battery is getting 14 or over volts from the alternater to the battery , if your getting less than that it's not putting enough volts back to the battery to run the car with good luck colin

My 1999 Lexus ES300 wouldn't start this morning. There's no sound when trying to turn over...no clicking are anything. When I listen under the hood there's a slight click in the alternator

Hi Susie, Turn on the head lights and get someone to observe them while trying to start. If they dim during trying to start, replace the battery. Regards John

Dashboard lights and gauges go out, windows won't work

Your alternator is out. Those are classic symptoms of alternating going out. The alternator recharges your electrical system and when it goes out a list of strange things go on inside the dash, and you won't be able to go very far on just a battery. I'm glad you at least made it home. But yes you will need a new alternator for sure. Please rate this response so I can get my ratings back up to 90% at least.

I've had my 320 CLK convertible for 7 years, its a 1999 v reg. Drove it 25 miles, turned it off to go to a shop, come out and it wouldn't start. Lights work, radio works, dash lights all on but...

ignition switch contact or starter motor given up the ghost ,try a jump start and see if that works ,do the lights go dim when you try to start it??if so then its a flat battery or a old battery thats just died on you. These vehicles do have a big ignition lock in the dash and these just dont go wrong like a VW but its possible?

Sometimes no response when key turned on to start, let set and then may start as normal?

If when you try to start the engine all the gauges and lights go dim on the dash, you have a bad, dirty or corroded battery cable. If your gauges and lights do not dim then its probably a bad starter solonoid. They will work off and on when they start to go bad.

I get credit when you rate my answer..............Thanks

My panel lights are too dim and won't brighten. I checked all the fuses and they are all working fine. I turned the dimmer knob all the way to the right and they still won't brighten. When I first turn...

Your alternator may be going bad. Once the car is running, your battery has done its job and the alternator takes over. The alternator is responsible for firing the plugs, running your lights, your radio, your heater/AC, and anything else electrical, as well as keeping your battery charged. If the alternator is on its way out (or even has a less than good ground), you may experience some lights dimming, or even choppy radio signal. If the alternator is already gone, and your car is running off of the battery full time, you will also get the dimming you describe, and sooner or later the car will not even start. Take your car to an auto parts store (Advance, or Auto Zone, etc) and ask them to test your alternator. This is a free service.
