Simple answer is pop along to your local ford dealer and pop the bonnet on a used car.or if you live on an estate sure one of your neighbours would be only too helpfull.otherwise its a long explanation of how to find no 1 cylinder wire then no 2 etc.length of wires dont help much does it.

Where is distributor located1995 960 6cyl

hi, if you follow the leads that come from the top of the spark plugs where all these leads plug into is the distributer their will be four leads running along the outside going to each spark plug then the lead that goes into the center of the distributer goes to the coil.

So if you follow the four ht leads from the spark plugs what these all plug into is the distributer, if you are removing the distributer then make sure you mark where each lead goes as you need to put them all back in the right place.
Its best if you mark say the first lead with a 1 and then write a one onto the distributer where that lead goes into use permanent marker pen to do this so it dont rub off. getting the leads the wrong way round will mean the car will either miss fire or not run at all so just keep it all marked up properly.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

check all battery leads and earth straps
"" car body and engen bay straps""
also check battery terminals are tight check its full of battery water too if its been low for a time bump it!
and have a ""drop meeter test"" done on the battery if its a bad battery it should show that up first time it could have cracked plates inside the battery its self, test by turning on head lights then hit starter, if every thing go's dead!!!! put ""good jump start"" battery on to car and try it again,,, all should work just fine then,,,,it could just be a flat battery?????

Hi if your car is petrol then you need to check that the plugs work try swapping them round with 1 and 2 if they work you then need to check the leads you can do this by taking the plugs out of 3 and for and then connect them to the spark plug leads then rest them so they are earthing out in the engine bay( you need to make sure its just the end of the spark plug resting onto metal then turn the engine over and you should see if the plugs are sparking it should be bright and regular spark. (its better to do this in the dark ) before you remove the plugs wait till its dark then with the bonnet up get someone to turn the car over and nif their are any sparks coming from the leads on 3 and 4 if their is then the leads need replacing.

IF no spark at plug and no short on the leads then you need to check the distributer this is where all the plug leads go into check this for any crack when you remove it.

Once removed look inside at the four contacts make sure they are clean and free from contaminents such as oil as their is a seal just behind this might have gone you can use sand paper to clean the terminals to ensure the electric can be sent from the rotary arm to the distributer so check its clean als use fine sand paper on the end of the rotary arm then refit and check for sparks again if its now sparking then give the car a try.

If you are getting a spark at all four of the plugs and the spark is good all round then the only problem you could have would be with the head gasket.
Are you sure the leads are fitted correct way round before you start any work.

If you have checked all leads and you have good spark then it can only be the head gasket this can be tested by using a sniff test or a compression tester these can both be brought from car spares shops but prices can vary.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Ford fiesta 1.4 o2 reg .

Common thing, water drips from the windscreen washer jets onto the Ht leads and into the spark plugs, New coil, leads spark plugs and new washer jets, Ford are aware of this fault and now sell modified washer jets.

Good luck Davelee.
