Transaxle Removal & Installation 3.4L Engine
Push pins from the coolant recovery bottle. Position the bottle aside. Air cleaner assembly Right side engine strut Transaxle range selector cable from the manual shaft Transaxle range selector cable bracket Wiring harness connectors from the transaxle Wiring harness bracket from the side cover Top four bell housing bolts Propeller shaft, if equipped Frame Transfer case lower brace Filler tube bracket retaining bolt Inspection cover Torque converter bolts Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) connector Right and left halfshafts from the transaxle Transmission cooler lines
Transfer case-to-engine mount bolts Lower transaxle bolts and stud Neutral safety switch connector Transaxle Transfer case from the transaxle
Transfer case to the transaxle
NOTE Thoroughly clean and apply LOCTITE® DRI-LOC 201® (GM P/N 12345493, or equivalent) to the bolt threads prior to assembly.
Lower transaxle bolt and stud. Torque to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm). Wiring harness bracket to the side cover Neutral safety switch connector Transaxle brace Transmission cooler lines Right and left halfshafts VSS connector Transfer case lower brace. Torque bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm). Torque converter bolts. Tighten the torque converter bolts to 46 ft. lbs. (63 Nm). Torque converter cover Filler tube bracket retaining bolt Propeller shaft, if equipped. Ensure the special washer is in place on each pair of bolts. Tighten the bolts to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm). Front wheels
Right side engine strut Upper transaxle bolts and stud. Torque to 55 ft. lbs. (75 Nm). Wiring harness the transaxle Range selector cable bracket Range selector cable on the manual shaft Air cleaner assembly Coolant recovery bottle.
NOTE Transmission oil circulates between the transmission assembly and the transfer case. In situations where transmission related failures circulate debris into the transfer case, the transfer case must be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for damage.
