Question about Pontiac Catalina

1 Answer

I have a 1963 Pontiac Catalina.I can't get brakes to engauge.Three days ago I was going down the road.I hit the brakes. They felt funny. So I pumped them once. They tightened up quick. The next time I hit them NOTHING.The pedal fell to the floor.I have new pads on them. There were no leaks.I've bleed them several times. It will not push the fluid hard.It just runs out slowly. The pedal still falls to the floor.

Oh - I misread your -'no leak' This is most likely a power booster problem. If there is a power booster on the car - replace it - if not - you have an internal leak in the master cylinder. The outside edge of the valve has collapsed and is allowing fluid to bypass it.
Thanks for your patience.

Just changed brakes. Hear a clicking/thumping sound while driving. Is this the CVC joint going out? How to check?

Does the sound get worse when you turn the wheel sharply? Best way to check is to raise the front end and try moving the shaft(s) going to the front wheel. Should not have any play in it.

2001 Pontiac Sunfire 5 days ago car started jerking ( it felt like I was driving a standard shift car) it does this alot when I accelerate or turn corners. it also makes a very loud noise when in park

Sounds like the torque converter lockup is having issues im not certain on that model but the older ones had a plug down in the front square with four wires i believe you can unplug and it will work fine

Yes,the newer cars need a strong battery or funny things happen. You'll need to replace your brake pedal switch or bleed the system properly. don-ohio (:^)

We have pulled the steering wheel off our 1963 Pontiac Parisienne, in doing so have broken the bearing that sits just inside the engine bay the housing connects the gear linkages, looking for a diagram for...

Digital files showing parts diagrams or workshop manual in PDF for a 1963 Pontiac are not available as they are never been released in this format. Moreover, since the Parisienne is canadian model,
even paper manuals are difficult to find. I checked an online database. It does not have the diagrams for this vehicle. I have diagrams for 1984 Parisienne but they would not help. The two vehicles are completely different.

The 1963 Parisienne was built between 1962 and 1964. The most similar US model is probably the Catalina.

I searched online for shop manuals for sale in places like Craiglist or Ebay. I could not find anything available. Here there was a workshop supplement that probably does not include steering column diagrams. I do not suggest buying the supplement.

The only way to get a diagram is submitting a request to classic Pontiac websites. Here the ones that can help:

1) Full Size Pontiac Club : members exchange parts and diagrams for Pontiac. Here email: .

2) FAXTON Literature. They collect and reprint classic car technical documents from old paper. Here their website. Here their contact:

3) OLCARMANUALPROJECT: They collect classic cars technical documents. Here their contact:

4) Among most interest documents available for online sales, the reprinted/digitized manuals at Faxton:

Can you locate front rotors for a 69 Pontiac Catalina?

Should be drums in the front of the Catalina? sells RAYBESTOS Part # 1270 which are for the front of the 65-70 Catalina, and 68-70 Catalina Ventura.

"IF" you are talking about a conversion kit to run disc brakes on the front that is a different story.

My 1998 Chevrolet c1500 4x2 5.7 v8 left front wheel makes, what could be the problem. I just had a watepump replaced a few days ago, could this have anything to do with the wheel or brake getting too hot?

No, the water-pump would not effect the wheels. I am going to assume it is a noise that the front left wheel makes, and here are some common causes:
  • Bearings
  • Brake pads
  • Suspension
  • tire rub
  • loose lug
Do these noises occur constantly during the drive? (This is most likely a bearing)
Only while braking? (Break pads)
When hitting rough roads? (Suspension_
