1983 silverado rear main seal leak how to replace it

For this to be done you must purchase a rear main seal by visiting your local parts store and then you must incline the engine remove drive shaft, remove transmission mount, and remove the transmission then you are able to access the rear main seal.

I have an 83 silverado short bed and im about to pull the tranny out to get it rebuilt and the rear main seal may be leaking as i put oil in and it leaks out pretty fast. my tranny is covered in oil and so...

I'm fairly certain that your engine does not have a full circle external main seal (if when you remove the trans and flywheel you find the rear crank flange is bolted to the crank and not part of the crank, then I'm wrong) If it's not an external seal, it is two piece, located in the rear of the main bearing cap. That makes it necessary to remove the engine oil pan and the rear bearing. Before contemplating doing anything with that, make very sure that the leak is not from the intake or valve covers first. Otherwise you'd be doing ton of work for no reason. Wipe everything down and look carefully. If it's leaking fast it shouldn't be difficult to see.

How do I replace the rear main seal in a 2001 2500hd 6.0 liter? Do i have to pull the tranny or is it a two piece seal?

You must pull the transmission. GM has not made a 2-piece seal in probably the last 30 years.

How do i change main oil seal on a 93 honda accord ls

Rear main? If so you are going to have to drop the tranny, remove the flexplate, Then you will have clear access to the rear main oil seal. Simply get a pick or a screwdriver and remove it. Might take some effort to get it out. Once it's out, clean up the area nice and clean with some engine degreaser or brake kleen and install new seal.

This is a pretty big job for someone that isn't familiar with the process. If you have dropped tranny's before or pulled engines, it should be a breeze.

Good Luck!

PS. If you are still curious you can grab a hanes manual from your local auto parts store and it will show in detail this whole process with pictures.

I need to replace the rear main seal on my 95 chevy pickup with a 350. do i need to drop the tranny?

Yes, either pull the trans or pull the engine. No way to get in there with out having one of the two out!
FYI it's very rare for a rear main on that engine to leak, Most all of the time it's the oil pan gasket or coming from higher up like a valve cover or the intake gaskets!

How hard is it to replace the rear main seal in a '87 Samurai?

Is it a 4x4 if it is you would have to seperate the tranny from transfer case and drive shaft tp change out seal.If not just drop the drive shaft and replace seal.We are talking about the rear seal at the end of the tranny.

Rear main seal

THE REAR MAIN IS WHAT IS CALLED A FULL CIRCLE SEAL, SO YES THE TRANS AND FLYWHEEL MUST BE REMOVED, U WILL ALSO NEED THE SPECIAL FORD SEAL INSTALLER, WITHOUT IT THE SEAL WILL MOST LIKELY LEAK SOONER AFTER INSTALLATION.

2002 Jeep Wrangler appears the rear of the oil pan gasket is leaking. How hard is it to change out and any tips/

It is the oil pan gasket all you have to do is drop the oil pan clean the bottom of the engine block and the surface of the oil pan and install the oil pan again. a very simple process. Make sure that it is not the rear main crank seal that is leaking. If it is the rear main then you will have to remove the tranny to replace the rear main seal.
