Pretty sure dealer has to do this with scan tool. They like to take this opportunity to find other things to make money from so don't be surprised if they take a half hour to do it

Only dealers can give that info out and only in person or lock smith cost 300. or more depending on year and type remote if you have title you won't have a problem but if you don't you will pay though the nose for a dishonest locksmith and they really hard to find.

Programming the keyless remote

if you have the original remote, you can do it yourself. My remote was working without a problem until the other day when all of a sudden it didn't work out of nowhere. I thought it was the battery (might have been and needed to be reprogrammed after replacing it) so I changed it. Still didn't work. So I did a search and found the following instructions: Click Here

The answer is remarkably simple:
1. Get in the car and close the door.
2. Turn the key to the ACC position
3. Push the unlock button on the remote until the blinkers flash once.
4. Get out of the car and test the remote. It should be working fine. ( I actually was able to test it while in the car)

P.S. I would change the battery first.

A key was lost and we were supllied with a new one which is able to crank the engine but won`t start the car

If its the type of key which needs to be programed, you need to take the key to a respected local lock smith. They can program the key for you. Also, where did you get the key from? I would recommend you purchasing a key from the dealer or a respected local lock smith.

You can call a lock smith and they can come out and fix it, if you have towing service then call tow company so they can take the car to a lock smith to save the charge of the lock smith, they now have the ability to make keys for the ping style locks that came out in 2000 or earlier and having the key that mates to the lock will make it cheaper but the will have to program the new key with your computer.
