Check the alternator belt for slipping, if not the voltage when running should be at least 14 volts or a little higher. when car is off the voltage should be at least 13 volts at battery. check for correct voltage. hope this helps!!

this is toolman, if above tests are ok. then the (iac) idle air control needs removed and cleaned out from carbon buildup. when cleaning do not put iac in any liquid. use a old toothbrush or similar to clean end of valve. do not push in on valve it will lose its setting. also clean where it goes on to engine.

turn the AC on and let the engine idle for 30 seconds.

Idle problem on v6 ba astina hunts from 1000/1500 revs

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

rx7`s should rev to 3000 when started cold then it should settle to 750 to 1000 after about 30 to 60 seconds.
mine suffers a similar problem. so far I have been told various answers, mostly involving the bac valve, lambda sensor, air flow meter, etc. try starting of by adjusting the idle adjust screw (on top of the throttle body under plastic cover) this may be all it is. I have not had time to do mine. Its been fine otherwise and idles fine after a few minutes. mine is non turbo 87.
