Service engine light comes on intermittently. It's

2003 Saturn L300. Service engine light comes on intermittently. It's a silhouette of a car with a wrench inside. Only when the light is on does the car **** or hesitate between gears. At this time it also jumps into gear from park to reverse, etc. When the car is turned off & restarted, the light goes out & the car rides fine until the light reappears. If this is a transmission issue, one would think it would act as described with the light out.??? Why only when the light on???

Hi:
There are not many things that cause the service engine light to come on and off, but usually it is a cylinder misfire, or equivilent. The only real way to find out is to have your computer codes downloaded to identify what is going on. Most autoparts stores, such as autozone, will do this for free. Once you have your codes, you can go from there!

HI I HAVE A 2002 SATURN L300 AND I HAD AN OIL CHANGE TO STOP THE WRENCH LIGHT FROM COMING ON AND ITS STILL ON WHY IS THAT? I THOUGHT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ONLY FOR MAINTENCE. THANK YOU

If you reset the monitor when you had the oil changed, and that light is for oil change due, the light should have stayed off.
Usually the wrench warning light is a service vehicle warning, not for oil change is due.
Your owners manual should explain each warning light.
You may have to get the body computer checked out by a shop or the dealer.

My Saturn L300 2002 has the wrench service light come and it drives good

You should be able to have an auto parts store check the engine computer for trouble codes. The codes would direct a mechanic as to what to check next.

Where is the fuse/s for the map lights and dome lights

ANSWER by patrick mannion on June 01, 2010
Looking at a wiring diagram the dome light and rear reading lights operate through the body control module. Check the BCM 2 fuse, BCM 1 fuse and BCM cluster fuse they may all be in the circuit. These fuses are in the engine compartment fuse box.

Take your car to Autozone and they will run a code checker to tell you what the problem is and what it will take to fix it.

Forget the dealer
You get a check light.leave it,and go to a shop to scan it for the code. Then have them diagnose from there and repair.
You have system malfunctions on both vehicles.

Service light w/wrench

Sound like your Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) has an issue. Check the wire leads first and if that is good, replace the TPS. A faulty TPS will give you a hard 1-2 shift and delayed shift on the higher gears at WOT. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know your car is running 100% again.

My saturn l300 will not start the service light is on

I guess you need to find out why the service engine light is on and start there. That is why they come on to let you know that there is a problem that requires immediate attention.
