Question about 2004 Ford Freestar

1 Answer

My battery in my 2004 Ford Freestar just went totally dead. I heard a noise(clicking) in my right rear door while van was being given a boost. But the battery would not turn over. All my lights, windows, and doors worked, but the car would not start. Is this more than a battery problem

No. the clicking is a relay being opened and closed rapidly due to the electrical current being sent thru the system. this should not ever happen. it is a sign that you have a short on that side of the vehicle. generally it indicates that the ground wire coming from the battery is contacting the body somewhere. inspect that wire and tape any bare spots.

Power windows and vent

If more than one window is not working, it could be the controller in the door, or lack of power to that side of the van.
Have you checked the window switch for power and ground ?

2004 ford freestar drivebelt

All you need is a 13mm boxed end wrench. The tensioner pulley is the one all the way on the bottom towards the rear of the van. You can reach it under the van. Slide under the van in front of the passenger front tire and you will wee the pulley. Put the wrench on the bolt and pull towards you to release the tension on the belt.
