Aside from the light is the stablizing unit working. If it is the light you will need to reprogram the computer if not your stablizing unit needs replacement. Good Luck

If I only drive my truck about 4000 miles a year is that when I should change my oil? I live in a small town, I rarely have to leave it.

if ti gets cold and is not started often it should be changed at least twice a year, the reason is condensation causes acid build up in the block and will pitthe rings valves and cylinder walls. And it should be started once a week and gas additive like lucas gas additive to stablize the fuel so it does not rot fuel lines and other rubber parts in the system.

Service stablization system

this is a warning that there is a problem with the electronic traction control system, a part or circuit has failed, u will need to have the dealer test the system for a trouble code that will be stored in the control modules memory that will indicate were to look for the defective part, it will most likely be a wheel speed sensor, until the system light is out it is disabled.

Front end of my 87 jeep cherokee shakes bad when i hit a bump

May check your ball joints and tie rods. Also could be your shocks.
Does it seem like its more shaking on the left or right? or even?

Shaking wheels

It's something in your steering components or you tires. I've seen both. If your tires are pretty good, it could be your steering stablizer. It's like a shock asorber for you steering system. There also maybe some components wearing out in your steering system too though casuing the stablizer to wear out or unable to to asorb the shock from the bump.
