Question about Chevrolet HHR
It could be the interlock system with the shifter is malfunctioning. Jiggle the shifter while you try to turn and remove the key to see if that releases it. If so, your shifter interlock switch is probably misaligned or sticking. Try spraying some WD-40 into the shifter area under the console. There is a rubber plug about one-inch square on the bottom side of the steering column. If you pull this out and push your index finger into the opening, you'll find a little button that you push. This will release the mechanism so you can turn the key the rest of the way and remove it. Check to see if your battery is dead, put it on a recharger overnight to bring it back to life. If it won't hold a charge then replace it with another one
