SOURCE: 2005 ford f250 powerstroke, I

plug to keep from gelling??? no such thing..there may be an engnieblock heater that makes for easier starting in cold wweather, but this does not accomodate fuel heating. the power cord for the block heater is an option from factory, not all are built with it. howeer, all diesels have the actual heater installed. it is in the right side of the engine as i recall and will have 3 prongs stickinjg out that the plug would snap onto..this heater is in place of an engine freeze plug..the power cord can be ordered from your dealer for abouit $80.00 (US $)..as far as anti gelling, that would be an additive poured directly into you fuel upon fill up..i would suggest using it around 35 degrees f, and below

You need to check the glow plug system. Check for power from the glow plug relay.

How do i trouble shoot the glowplugs on a 1999 powerstroke

you test the resistance of each glow plug, they should all be about the same resistance, if u find any that are way off from the others then chances are they are defective. Have u considered going to constant duty glow plugs? they last far longer and are cheaper in the end.

Glow plugs

to check the glow plugs you can use a scanner (snap-on) or you have to take the valve covers off, take a test light n hook it up to your positive post on battery, pull wire off glow plug, take test light to glow plug if it lights its good if it doesnt the plugs bad,as for the fuel leak it may be the lift pump in the valley or it can also be the vacum switch on the fuel filter housing

F250 Ford 7.3 L Powerstroke Hard to Start Cold

I have a 2000 F250 with Powerstroke and my buddy has a 02 with same engine. Both of us have had the same problem. There are two coils (look like starter coils) on top of the engine that can be seen from the passenger side of the truck. The shorter of the two, has to do with supplying voltage to the glow plugs. When this coil gets older, it breaks down causing a higher resistance in the circuit. Which reduces the volts that the glow plugs see. In turn resembles a problem with the plugs. My buddy and I changed the coils and both trucks start like new. The part cost $80-$90. and can be changed in less than 5 minutes. Glow plugs are a lot bigger job and more expensive.
