Ahh. These are very easy to do. 1. Drain the sytem througn either the petcock on the bottom of the radiator or just removing the lower hose 2. remove the outer shroud by spinning the round part of the housing until it unlocks(about 1 inch rotation)push the shroud forward over the fan and leave there 3. remove the inner shroud by removing the 2 metal side clips(with a screwdriver usually)and pull up 4. remove the 2 transmission cooler lines underneath(either 17 or 19mm) 5. remove the 2 radiator hoses. 6. remove the 2 metal clips on top of the radiator. That's it!! Put in your new radiator. Make sure you turn the heater on while you are filling the system so it help to bleed the entire system. I love these 126 body cars. Let me know if you need anything else!

Probably has 3 or 4 of them in the exhaust from the header down past the catalytic converter. Your check engine code should have stated which one. Anyway, an easy fix, might need special tool, check it out, Hope this helps.

1990 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL computer problem? wont

This could be caused by a faulty Crank position sensor. The computers are expensive for this and not something that commonly fails on these. Have the fuel pumpchecked for operation and pressure. Check for spark at the plugs. Then we can procede further if you would like.

I asked you yesterday about replacing a radiator on a 1986 mercedes 420 sel. your info was great. one more question. engine is idling high. any ideas?

There could be a vacuum leak. All vacuum hoses should be inspected and replaced as necessary. The computer does control timing but can be manually set. This could be an issue, or even someone messing with the CO adjustnment through the Mass Air Flow sensor. This is a very sensitive adjustment and should be performed by someone who knows how to do it. Another place to get a vacuum leak that is common is under the upper plenum(intake). Let me know if you find anything and if not we can go a little further into controls. You can email me at iambanshee74@yahoo.com and I should be able to find diagrams

How do i replace a radiator in 1986 mercedes 420 sel

These are very easy to do. 1. Spin the shroud of the fan about 1 1/2 " and the shroud will unclip and move forward over the fan. 2. remove the metal slide clips from the sides of the remainder of the shroud and lift up. 3.unscrew the 2 trans cooler lines from underneath and allow to drain in a pan 4. Remove the radiator hoses and allow to drain. 5, Remove the 2 metal clips on top and lift the radiator out. Be sure when you reinstall the shroud that you spin the fan and adjust the shroud accordingly so it does not hit. Let me know if you need anything else.

HYDROPNEUMATIC SUSPENSION

Hello, I've never seen a 420sel with hydro-pneumatic suspension. Are you sure that it isn't a 560sel?
Anyway, there is a tank on the left side of the engine compartment close to the front that is a little larger than a qt jar. It may look yellowish in color and has a steel line going to it with a screw on lid and a dipstick. Pull out the dipstick and ck the fluid level. If it shows nothing, fill to the correct level only using the Correct Mineral Oil That It Calls For. If it is full, you probably have a bad pump that is located on the front of the engine.
I hope this helps.
