Sounds like your brake light switch, which is behind the brake pedal, may have failed. They are simple and inexpensive to replace.

It looks like a bracket, that wraps around the brake pedal arm, and it has a cylinder type switch that makes contact with the brake pedal arm. When the brake pedal is pressed down it pushes the cylinder switch together which closes the circuit and makes you brake lights come on.

Up from the pedal arm, under the dash is a brake light switch that is adjustable. You need to move it a little.

Stoplamps on 2003 silverado stay on

Most common cause is the brake light switch either out of adjustment or faulty. if you lift up on the brake pedal the lights should go out if the switch is out of adjustment.

My brake lites stay on all the time on my 2005 chev 1500 silverado, even if i take the brake light switch out. Is it the switch?

it may be the brake light switch. have you tryed making the connection manually? or is it the 'e' brake switch staying on? try pulling up on the emergency brake pedal to insure the "e" brake switch is'nt bad before you replace a suspected bad brake light switch on the steering column. if you suspect a bad brake light switch, pull up on the brake pedal and look to insure the brakelight swich disenguages itself,it may only need adjusted.the plunger may be loose. or the plugin may be loose. if not any of these, then i suggest you replace the brake light switch on the steering column,at bottom, near floorboard,on the steering column itself.

Cruise does'nt work all the time have to pull back

the brake switch is what is used to disengage the cruise, so I would check to see if the brake pedal is slightly contacting the switch to keep the cruise disengaged..it is located just on the back side of the brake pedal arm up under the dash...it may be out of adjustment or maybe just plain defective

since you replaced the bulb recently pull that bulb back out and check that the contacts are straight in that socket some times when replacing the bulb the bend and short out in to each other. if this is the case just starighten them back out and carefully replace bulb if this is not the case check the bulb out it may have the wrong wattage rating causing it to pull to many amps

My brake light stays on in the dash

Typically, worn brake pads won't cause the warning light to come on. Some vehicles have a brake fluid sensor that can cause the light to come on. Also make sure the parking brake is completely releasing and if you have ABS, make sure everything is working there.
Uneven brake pressure will certainly cause the brake light to come on, that's when the master cylinder is working a lot harder for one circuit (front or back) than it is for the other, indicating either low brake fluid level or damaged/worn wheel cylinders.
If you can't find anything by examining the brakes, you may need to pay for a scan of the ABS computer.

If they don't match up they are wrong. There is a big difference in body styles (top to bottom) between both cars so I would assume they do not interchange.
