Question about 2004 Chevrolet Impala

2 Answers

I have a 2003 chevy impala which will drain the battery dwon overnight. I found that the if I pull the fuse for the radio, it goes away, I've replaced the radio with a new one, then i thought that it might be the BCM module, so replace it, I also disconnected the rear amp and RF module and still have the draw. not sure what to try next.

If it stops drawing down when you unhook the radio, it can be a bad ground. Try finding a separate place for the for the radio ground

First unhook the battery and see if it drains down while it is unhooked. If so replace the battery, if not be sure all lights in the car turn off, including the trunk light, under hood light, and glovebox light. Best to remove the bulbs from all these lights to be sure.

I recently bought a 05 Chevy Equinox and I have been having problems with the battery dies overnight or at random times, any suggestions?

If you've checked all your connection, you've tested the alternator loaded and unloaded and you did a load test on the battery and found it all good, then you probably do have a drain. I would put a DVM on the battery and see if it slowly drops in voltage, if it does, start pulling your fuses, 1 by 1 until the drain stops, then you'll know what circuit is draining the battery. I had a drain going on awhile back, before I pulled the fuses out of the 2000 Chevy van, I sat in it, in the dark everything off and doors closed, I found that the glove box door wasn't shutting all the way and the light inside was draining the battery. Good luck

2003 Honda odyssey fuse 13 under hood draw 40a I pulled fuse13 passenger side marked clock, backup out and draw went away . .radio is disconnected. goes dead overnight???

ok , i dont believe fuse 13 draws 40amps, sorry.

did you use an ammeter, and if not an ampclamp meter this is harder.
here is a page that shows all ways to find phantom drains.

http://www.fixkick.com/drain/drain.html

12x40 is near 500 watts, no way, if you had drain link that
there would be
1: huge light.
2: huge heat
3: or huge noise.
for sure. 500watts dont just fly way like a bird, not in this world.
no lie we can find, it, but first tell what tools you have.
really.

We have a 2004 Chevy impala that has a new starter, new battery. However, sometimes it just won't start. No reason. One day will be working fine then the next day won't start. Maybe try to start an hour...

Hi! Not sure what you mean by "not starting", but I think you mean the battery is completely drained? Try charging the battery and unplugging the review mirrow and pull the fuse for the radio. Wait 12 hours and see if there is juice left in the battery. My 2003 had a constant drain, this fixed it temporarily.

Something is draining my battery overnight already tested battery starter altenator cellinoid

Hi there,

This response contains troubleshooting procedures designed to locate the cause of an overnight power drain resulting in a dead battery, It assumes the charging system is working.

The first (and easiest) test I run is on the battery.

When you are done using it for the evening, pull the Negative battery cable.

In the morning, re-connect it. If it's dead again, the battery need replacement. This does not necessarily mean you found the problem.

If it starts, the battery is ok. It's time to look for the power drain.

With the ignition off, ensure the systems that should be off actually are off. For example: does the radio still come on? Wipers? Etc.?

In the same vein, has anything new been installed lately?

The next test is a lot more tedious. You will need a test light, needle nose pliers (to pull fuses) and the proper tools to remove the negative battery terminal (again).
  • Ignition off
  • Remove the cable from the Negative battery terminal
  • Hook one end of your test light to the Negative battery post
  • Attach the other end to the cable you just removed
  • Again, double check connections to recent installations (radio, GPS, etc)
  • If it lights up very faintly, this is likely the normal drain of the clock. The brighter the light, the bigger the drain.
  • Find your fuse box
  • While keeping an eye on the test light, pull the fuses one by one. Replace the one just pulled before going to the next.
  • When the light goes out (or dims), you will have narrowed the the problem to a specific system. Check the legend on the fuse box for the offending fuse.
At this point there are too many 'What if's'. Which system has the drain will determine the next steps to be taken.

This procedure will allow you to focus in on the problem area. Let me know what you find out.

Hope this helps

Mike
