Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt

1 Answer

When I put my car in park and turn it off sometimes my keys don't want to be released. I either have to wiggle them and my steering wheel or restart my car, put it in drive and back in park and then I can get them out.

Often this is caused by the steering wheel binding against the lock in the column.
Try to let go of the steering when you come to a stop parking before you turn the key off

My key will not turn in the ignition in my rx400h, 2006

Sometimes when the car is parked with the wheels turned to one side, it puts pressure on the key.
Try turning the steering wheel a little more each way, while turning the key, to release the pressure.
Hope this helps.

2001 subaru outback key will not release, car will not start, car in park

Press the brake, wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, and turn the key, sometimes the pin that locks the steering wheel gets stuck if the car is shut off with the wheels in a bind. I hope this is helpful.

Key will not turn

Pull the steering wheel harder one direction then the other while trying to turn the key. if the power steering was under pressure when shut off, it could need more than a "wiggle" to release.

My key will not start my car...its in park and the steering wheel is in the lock position...and the head lights aer not working

Can you turn the key at all? If not, sometimes the steering wheel can be binding on the key release. Wiggle the steering wheel left and right while trying to turn the key. If it releases and the vehicle starts, you have corrected the issue. If you can turn the key and nothing happens, you say you headlights don't work....does anything else. You could have a dead (or very low) battery.

I have a 95 camaro, I put the key in ignition and it will not turn the ignition. It's like it's stuck. Replaced the ignition module and still cannot turn ignition. Help!

the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.

things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.

transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter

Key won't turn, won't shift from Park

My 2003 Saturn l200 2.2 ecotec did this when the battery was dead. Put some juice on the battery, then the car came out of park, and I was able to remove the key. To the car, there's a vast difference between a sluggish battery and a dead battery. It may have enough amps to crank it, but it wont start w/out full output from the battery.

When i try to put the car in park it want go and the key want turn all the way back.

Sometimes the steering will cause the key release to bind if your wheel is turned to much. Try wiggling the steering wheel and make sure your car is in park.

'95 rodeo cant turn the key, the key is not stuck, the cylinder is

Try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the ignition. Didn't work? Can you remove the key? Use some WD40 with the tube and spray a little in. Put the key in, pull it out, repeat several times. Put the key in and wiggle the ignition lock back and forth.(try while wiggling the steering wheel back and forth, too.) Still won't move? Try pulling the key out just a small fraction of an inch and try turning the ignition.

Still no solution, time to give up and call a locksmith.

Ignition key does not turn

have you tried wiggling the steering wheel?

while trying to turn the key, try to wiggle the steering wheel. sometimes, the lock to the steering wheel is preventing the key to turn.
