I have a 2006 Chevrolet Impala 3.6. The check engine light is on and it's reading an error code of A09. Any Idea what that may be?

• Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low
• Cold Start Injector 1 Malfunction
• Shift Solenoid E Performance or Stuck Off

According to the error code list (see the link below) it is an over advanced cam shaft timing. It well may be a mechanical fault as opposed to an electrical fault. Read about it here:

Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

That indicates severe misfire. Have the codes read and that should isolate which cylinders.

Check engine lights can mean a number fo different issues. I would recommend that you have the codes read from the computer and this will determine what causing the light to come. Most auto parts store take code reads for FREE!

Hellow: Most likely you have a problem with the electronic throttle control. Get the codes read at auto zone or advance auto that will tell you for sure what is bringing the light on. They probably will not charge you to read the codes.

Could be gas cap

If you are a DIY'er you can get a OBDII scan tool that connects to your laptop that can tell you the error code and allow you to reset your check engine light. This will save you $80 each time over going to a mechanic for a diagnostic. They are easy to use and will help you know what the issues are if you do have to go to a mechanic.

Or you can try disconnecting your vehicles negative battery lead for 5 minutes. That should clear the code. if you check engine light comes back on after several days, you still have a problem
