It is very simple, disconnect the battery negative cable for 5 minutes or use a scanner.

Getting codes from a 2000 buick lesabre

Buy yourself a OBD-II code reader, V-Checker (online) or one from Harbor Freight Tools. $50-ish range. This will let you read the stored codes and even reset the check engine light, useful when the problem has been solved. In general the Check Engine Light doesn't reset itself. The computer knows something is operating out of specifications, sets a fault code within the computer's memory and illuminates the Check Engine Light to let you know something "flipped" when it should have "flopped". (That last part if just an electronics technician's joke derived from a chip called a flip-flop, used here with jocularity to indicate a malfunction.)

Just had a recent oil change, spark plugs and wires done on a 91 buick lesaber limted 4-dr but service engine light is on! what could be the problem?

you could have a sensor going bad, or an o2 sensor picking up irregular signals. try to reset your cars computer by disconnecting the positive cable from battery for 5mins. this will reset the whole system. if the light comes back on thrn i suggest you take it to autozone or an advance auto to have it code read for free. they will code read it and tell you where the problem is and you can go from there. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

It would be better if you got the codes read and then post back with the code. There are numerous codes that can cause the check engine light to go on.Auto Zone will do this for free. There are a few other parts stores that do this for free also.Hope this helps.Good luck.

you can take of the ground of the battery of the car for 30 minutes and the computer will reset. if you drive around without reseting the computer might figure it out after 30 miles.

How do I reset my Check Engine Light?

you could go to an auto parts store and they can reset it for you, or you could pull your battery cables off the battery and hold them together for about 10 sec. that will clear any codes.
