Question about 1995 Dodge Caravan

I have a 1995 caravan SE, I replaced the alternator and since then the dome light don't work, the voltage gauge on the instrument cluster doesn't work, and the (yellow)memory wire for the stereo is somehow shorted? Any suggestions?

Check all your fuses one of them may have popped when you changed it out

Where does the voltage come from for the dashboard gauges grand caravan 2003. Have no gauges Checked fuses and relays all are good. Looked over wiring diagrams but looked like computers are together.


Do the light's on the instrument cluster work ? Fuse #24 - 20 amp location intergrated power module , under hood fuse box . Probably the instrument cluster it's self is bad , but without testing that would be a guess . Hooking up a factory or professional scan tool to view input's to the instrument cluster would be the proper way to diagnose. Gauge info to the Instrument come's over PCI serial data bus . A communication network for the control modules on the vehicle . Gauge info. come's from the PCM - powertrain control module. Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop ,dealer etc....

check for blown fuse check for bad fuel pump relay. check for bad wires.

Might be a loose or corroded connector. Remove the cluster and check the connectors. See procedure at link below. If conneectors look good but gauges contine with issue, replace the cluster.

All the gauges in the car does not work including the digital odometer, but the dash lights work along with everything else on the van. wat is the problem?


It is likely that it's the main wire connector pins on the instrument cluster circuit board. By re-flowing the solder on the 13 pins, you will probably resolve the problems. This is even more likely to be the problem if there has been erratic dash board, gauge, idiot light behaviour. Let me know if you need instructions on how to remove the instrument cluster to re-solder the 13 pins. It actually doesn't take too long.

Check gauges light comes on & the charging hands drops off, new battery, alternator was checked, it's good, what could the problem be? it's a 1995 Jeep Wranger.


Do the other gauges quit working also. If so you have an electrical connection problem at the back of the instrument cluster. Remove the cluster, unplug the electrical connectors and clean both sides with "electronics cleaner". Insert plugs and reinstall cluster. This is a common problem. Be sure to look for burnt contacts.

My battery light on my 2003 Chevy Cavalier keeps coming on. I have replaced the battery and the alternator, but still it is on. I am told that it could the be main computer for the car. What do you think...

Before condemning the PCM there a few things to check.

1. With the engine measure the voltage at the battery, it should be about 13.8 volts.

2. If not about 13.8 volts check the red wire at the "L" terminal on the alternator with the key on there should be battery voltage. There two red wires on this alternator the smaller red wire in the plug will go to terminal "L" (see diagram below). The other one goes to the battery, this one should have battery voltage at all times. If ether one doesn't have battery voltage that is the circuit with the fault . There is a fusible link for the larger red wire that will need to be checked and replaced if found bad. The smaller will have to be traced down to look for damage and if found repaired.

If don't find the problem in ether of these wires suspect the PCM.

sounds like you need to have the alternator checked, if it were the instrument cluster the van would still run, you may still have a problem with the cluster, but the running 2 miles and the battery going dead is the charging system, you may have two problems. fix the charging system first then worry about the dash.

This Seems Indicative Of a Poor Connection AT The CLUSTER Or A Junction Connecter Close to the Cluster. This is Assuming you Have Ruled OUT ALL ABS COMPONENTS, LOOK at These VERY CLOSLY Because of the Small Volts These Wires Carry , the SMALLEST DEFECT WILL Cause this Type of Symptom that you have given. Please try all of the Above, I feel Confedint that athis is where your Problem Is.

Instrument panel went dead


Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task).This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).

1995 Toyota V6 Battery light on instrument cluster stays on


The battery light comes on if the battery voltage is too low. Check you battery voltage. It should be above 12V with the engine running. If not, the alternator is not working. Next, check if there is power on the FIELD terminal of the alternator. Again, you should have 12+V. Check if the Alternator fuse is blown.
